Chris Lane, ‘Big, Big Plans’ | Track Review

Country musician Chris Lane delivers a respectable, well-rounded country single with “Big, Big Plans,” which centers on the future most notably, marriage. 

Chris Lane has “big plans” – surely you could gather that from the title of his new single, “Big, Big Plans.” The rising country singer has plenty of noteworthy moments throughout his ‘ambitious’ single.  First and foremost, in regard to his instrument, he exhibits a characteristic country vocal tone (southern twang).  Yep, that totally checks off the country box.  Furthermore, the overall sound and production are true the genre.  Check, check.

Getting into the record, Chris Lane looks toward the future, which includes marriage namely, but also references kids, house, and etc.  The subject matter is nothing brand-new, but it’s an effective theme regardless of genre, but particularly in country music. On the first verse, he focuses on his girlfriend and the fact she doesn’t know what he has in store. On the shorter second verse, which is a wee bit too short honestly, he expands on the ‘big, big plans’: “She don’t know I already bought a ring / …Asked her mama for permission and her daddy for her hand.” Later, the bridge discusses the proposal…

“Big, Big Plans” has a relatively simple, but effective melody. Generally, the tune resides within the span of an octave.  Fair enough.  Returning to the lyrics, Chris Lane benefits from a catchy chorus that sums things up:

“She don’t know I got some big, big plans
Build a little house out on some hand-me-down land
Find a little island where we go to get tan
I bet we take our kids down there one day
And I know she wouldn’t mind if I
Did a little somethin’ like find a flight
Overnight to paradise and leave tonight
And I’ma put a diamond on her hand.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Chris Lane does well on “Big, Big Plans.” This is a respectable country record by all means.  Obviously, there is nothing brand-new or transcendent, but there’s nothing wrong with effective and relatable, two winning characteristics.
