Childish Gambino, Feels Like Summer [Photo Credit: RCA]Following the superb “This is America,” Childish Gambino returns with a ‘Summer Pack’ comprised of “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer.”

Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) is nothing short of a gift.  Is there anything that this talented individual can’t do? That’s rhetorical by the way.  After wowing with “This is America”, one had to wonder, can he do anything to top this? The answer so far is no, but Glover delivers two singles that truly do make a great Summer Pack“Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer.”

“Feels Like Summer” is the lengthier of the two singles that make up Summer Pack.  Yep, “Feels Like Summer” just misses the five-minute mark.  While it’s long, there’s plenty to rave about.  The intro is both lush and rhythmic, while the overall production proves to be superb.  Childish Gambino continues to compel with his vocals, particularly when he adds falsetto to the mix.  Furthermore, he’s backed by smooth vocals which only accentuate the brilliance of his lead.  The chorus is feel-good and catchy, despite the fact that “Feels Like Summer” is set in minor key.  The tempo is slow yet groovy, with its retro cues and throwback production boding well in its favor.  Arguably more developed than “Summertime Magic,” “Feels Like Summer” features two verses with pre-chorus and chorus sections, as opposed to merely one distinct verse.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Childish Gambino continues to put his stamp on urban music, and music in general.  As aforementioned, “Feels Like Summer” doesn’t eclipse “This is America,” among the best songs of 2018, nor does it eclipse the Grammy-winning “Redbone”, but it’s another great record from one for the most intriguing multitalented entertainment threats.  Bravo Donald Glover, bravo.
