Chase Atlantic, Numb to the Feeling © Warner Bros.Rising Australian alternative band Chase Atlantic return with a new single, “Numb to the Feeling,” their first since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2017.

Who are Chase Atlantic? For those of you ‘not-in-the-know,’ Chase Atlantic is an Australian alternative / R&B band comprised of Mitchel Cave, Christian Anthony, and Clinton Cave.  In October 2017 they released their self-titled debut album.  Now the two brothers and one friend are back with a brand new single, “Numb to the Feeling.”

Alternative might be the best way to categorize and characterize Chase Atlantic, at least in regards to “Numb to the Feeling.” In regards to overall sound and vibe, “Numb to the Feeling” sounds like an urban contemporary or hip-hop record.  No, Mitchel Cave doesn’t necessarily drop bars, but the rhythmic approach to the lines, coupled with some colorful language, makes this record fit into the current musical landscape without a hitch.

Cave has boyish tenor, which is both appealing and charming. That said, he quickly erases any sense of innocence as he sings about drugs and sex.  Essentially, he’s numb to the feeling of drugs after abusing them, and numb to sex as well, requiring “extra” to put it respectably.  The chorus sums up the barrage of numbing issues that are taking down Cave.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Chase Atlantic is a band to watch.  The ideas encompassed on “Numb to the Feeling” is nothing brand new – drugs and sex are rampant across multiple genres of music.  That said, the band executes them well, and maybe most importantly, exhibits lots of swagger.  Besides the swagger, the production work is slick AF.  The “boys from down under” are cooking up a winner.
