Chaka Khan, Chakzilla | Song Review

At 73 years young, the legendary Chaka Khan ate and left no crumbs on her confident, funky, giant, and infectious pop single, “Chakzilla.”

Ooh-wee! Get it,  Chaka Khan! The legendary, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter brings it on her colorfully titled, electrifying single, “Chakzilla”. “Chakzilla” was written by Chaka Khan, Sia, and producer Greg Kurstin.

What does Chaka Khan bring the most of on “Chakzilla?” Those epic, big vocals.  She sings her face off and sounds as fresh as she did at her peak in the 1970s and 80s. A once-in-a-lifetime singer, you can hear why she’s earned the accolades she has by listening here. Not only do the vocals hit, but she is incredibly assertive, commanding, and confident in her performance. “You’re the kind, you’re the kind that I like,” she sings, and continues, “Creature of the night, creature of the light, light.” Backed by funky, vibrant, pop/R&B musical accompaniment, everything feels right.  There are plenty of memorable lyrics, including the ones excerpted above, with ear-catching melodies to match.  The section to beat is the chorus, which is a BIG deal –  like GIANT!

Giant, indeed! In short, “Chakzilla” is a soulful pop bop by the legendary Chaka Khan. She has nothing else to prove at 73, but SIS ATE DIS UP, PERIODT!
