Central Cee, The Team | Song Review

British rapper Central Cee gets us in the spirit for football with his enthusiastic Premier League anthem, in partnership with Coca-Cola, “The Team.”

What are we getting hyped up for, Central Cee? Football, aka soccer, stateside! “The Team” serves as the Premier League anthem. Cench partners with Coca-Cola. “The Team” was written by Jaelyn Rodriguez-Laureano, Giovanni Allenye-Graham, Jonny Leslie, Nothing Without, and Vitaly Outkine. Jonny Leslie and p-rallel produced it, with additional production from Jaasu and Harley Arsenault.

“The Team” is upbeat.  That tempo kicks. The production has danceable, house vibes, distinguishing itself from Central Cee’s more drill-oriented tunes/sound. The rhythmic beat is infectious, while the synths possess a cool energy. Accompanied by a solid backdrop, Cench delivers an agile flow. His British accent is ‘accenting’ – it’s pronounced! “I got tek with the kick / AP open, white rose gold,” he asserts in the first verse, and continues, “My safety deposit got skeletons in / These trophies prove I’m gettin’ it in.” Woo! Cench is confident, even if his real-life football skills are meh.  He drops more intriguing moments, asserting in the second verse, “Action replay, I reach my goal / Not stuck on the wing, but free my bro / Green like CeeLo, we don’t rely / On these guys, we hold our own.” “The Team” also features a pre-chorus, chorus, and post-chorus.  The chorus is the sugar, honey, and iced tea, of course!

Out on the field, they know where to find us.”

Beyond Central Cee spitting ferociously, Jaelyn Rodriguez-Laureano assists with background vocals. They accentuate the spirit of this ‘hyped-up’ track. If nothing else, “The Team” is an energetic, enthusiastic record from Central Cee. It’s a song that gets better with each listen. “Get hyped, get hyped, get hyped up!”
