Carnage & Lil Pump, i Shyne © Heavyweight17-year old up-and-coming rapper Lil Pump, alongside DJ Carnage, drop a cocky, flex-fest with banger, “i Shyne.” No new ground broken, but “it’s a vibe,” you might say.

Lil Pump had a successful year in 2017, thanks to the infectious, if utterly dumb “Gucci Gang.” Since releasing his self-titled album, the teen rapper continues to drop singles – bangers if you will.  The latest offering is “i Shyne,” which pairs Pump with DJ Carnage.  The results are ultimately predictable, but respectable.

“i Shyne” commences with wacky, extraterrestrial, synth-driven production.  Anchoring things down – hard-nosed, trap percussion.  Before the drums enter, Lil Pump makes his presence known by dropping his name and ad-libs.  Following the intro, the hook appears, in all its length, indecipherable glory (sans following along with the lyrics).

“Look at my neck shine (ice) / Look at my wrist shine, ch-yeah (ooh) / My diamonds might make you blind, ch-yeah (ooh, ch-yeah)…”

Expectedly, the rhymes on the hook and successive verses match the hard-nosed, malicious sound of the production work.  The flow itself is compelling, even if the rhymes aren’t ‘brand-new’ or groundbreaking by any means. There’s nothing transcendent about this record.  Lil Pump raps about material things, outlandish sex, and comes off incredibly cocky. Again, what’s new?

Final Thoughts

Essentially, listening to “i Shyne,” we’ve “been there, done that” with Lil Pump.  For those with short attention spans who need a good banger every now and again, Lil Pump and Carnage have got you covered.  The main rub with Pump at this point is that he just doesn’t show much range as a rapper.
