Camila Cabello, “Bam Bam” | Track Review 🎵

reaking up = perfect inspiration for a song! For 🎙 Camila Cabello experienced a high-profile split in late 2021with fellow pop musician 🎙 Shawn Mendes.  The two have been associated with one another – friends and as a couple – for a long time.  Naturally, this end of an era of sorts, deserves a soundtrack.  With, the promo single for her third studio album, 💿 Familia, she delivers a fun, therapeutic post-break-up joint, 🎵 “Bam Bam”. On “Bam Bam,” she’s assisted by 🏆 Grammy-winning British pop singer/songwriter, 🎙 Ed Sheeran.

“You said you hated the ocean, but you’re surfin’ now / I said I’d love you for life, but I just sold our house.” Yes, Cabello is referencing her ex, trying to move beyond the past.  “Bam Bam” begins abruptly with her singing the first verse, which doesn’t really prepare the listener for what’s to come. Soon enough, however, rhythmic guitar accompaniment enters, beginning to solidify the identity of the record. As “Bam Bam” progresses, the production further fills out, fully establishing itself.  Cabello’s verse is intriguing, but the crème de la crème is the chorus and post-chorus, which is infectious as albeit with its Latin/tropical influence:

“Así e’ la vida, sí

Yeah, that’s just life, baby

Yeah, love came around and it knocked me down

But I’m back on my feet

Así e’ la vida, sí

Yeah, that’s just life, baby

I was barely standin’, but now I’m dancin’

He’s all over me (Goza)

Ba-da, bam-bam-bam-bam, bam-bam…”

By the time Ed Sheeran arrives for the second verse, the listener has a clear idea where “Bam Bam” is going. Sheeran sounds great, singing about moving beyond the storm. Even better is when Cabello and Sheeran join forces, coupled with full instrumentation, including bright, articulated horns.  It’s a vibe!

Final Thoughts 💭 

Ultimately, “Bam Bam” is a distinct, fun single.  It’s better the second time you hear it. Camilla Cabello gets personal while also serving up personality – a great mix.  Sheeran collaborates well, helping to make “Bam Bam” a worthwhile listen.  Will it change your life? No, but it’ll enhance your playlist!
