1. Maluma, “Booty”

💿 Papi Juancho • 🏷 Sony Latin • 📅 2020

Maluma, Papi Juancho [📷: Sony Latin]“Muévelo, ese boom-boom ya muévelo / A mi cuerpo pégalo, así e’ cómo me gusta a mí.” Yessir! 🎙 Maluma is one handsome man 🤩 – and I dare girl or guy to dispute that fact! That said, the Colombian stud is even sexier when his music follows suit.  Throughout 💿 Papi Juancho, listeners a blessed to Maluma playing up his sexy persona.  With that considered, it’s not shocking in the least we get a butt song.  That butt song is – wait for it – 🎵 “Booty.”  Sure, it’s not the most original title, but best believe, this two-and-a-half-minute cut gets the job done.

“Booty” is the reggaeton / urbano latino equivalent to a rap/hip-hop club track.  A sexy man deserves a sexy song and that’s exactly what goes down. The production is lit (🎛 The Rude Boyz) and Maluma plays up the drip and sex.  Drip is cool, but the sex – I mean, the booty – is what we came here for.  Basically, Maluma encourages her to shake it, twerk it, and press up on him – grinding, of course.  Of course, it shouldn’t surprise you that during the song, he references them having sex (it was inevitable).  My favorite lyric: “Está más dura que Cardi B dándole al twerkeo” (“She’s hotter than Cardi B when she’s twerking”). Ooh wee, she’s a 10!

2.Gucci Mane, “Big Booty”

Ft. Megan Thee Stallion

💿 Woptober II • 🏷 Atlantic • 📅 2019

Gucci Mane, Woptober II [📷: Atlantic]“She’s a big booty bitch showing ass and cheeks…” Charming 🎙 Gucci Mane, charming. The mush-mouthed, southern rapper has been prolific post-incarceration, shallowness aside. 🎵 “Big Booty” appears on 💿 Woptober II (2019).  “Big Booty” inches past the two-minute mark keeping things short. 🎛 J. White Did It handles the boards, earning a shout out on the intro. As for Gucci, he kicks things off with the chorus, which encompasses bitches and booty – SHOCKER!

“Tell the skinny hoes to point me where the thick hoes at
He want a flat booty bitch, I’m not with all that
I got chips for days and I got whips for weeks
I bring out the fleet, and it bring out the freaks…”

🏆 Grammy-winning rapper 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion handles the sole verse.  She’s unapologetic in her ‘ass’ rapping endeavors.  A prime example: “Big old ass is heavy, shake that shit like jelly / Put me on your plate and slurp that shit up like spaghetti…” Wow!  She adds, “I ain’t never met a ho I felt like I had to compete with, uh / This the type of booty make a nigga drop his bitch…”  Perhaps her best moment references an iconic musician, water, and the TV show, Martin:

“Rollin’ like I’m Tina, pussy Aquafina
Make this booty giggle like you Martin and I’m Gina, hmm…”

“Big Booty” certainly won’t change your life, but if you ever needed a booty anthem to get you through Gucci Mane and Megan Thee Stallion have you covered.

3. City Girls, “Twerkulator”

🎵 “Twerkulator” • 🏷 Quality Control Music • 📅 2021

City Girls, "Twerkulator" [📷 : Quality Control Music ]“It’s time for the twerkulator / It’s time for the twerkulator…” Say what? On the short single 🎵 “Twerkulator”, rap duo 🎙 City Girls are all about twerking – shaking B-O-O-T-Y.  🎙 JT, who performs the excerpted line from the chorus, goes on to spit, “I’ma shake what my mama gave me / I’ma shake my money maker.”  The Girls show their cards from the start of this joint.

After performing the chorus, JT goes on to drop the first verse. It’s all about butt and ultimately, sex: “Right cheek, left cheek wit’ it (Woo) / Fun size, on fleek wit’ it (Uh).”  There’s nothing transcendent, just twerking.  Similarly, 🎙 Yung Miami speaks about those ASSets, asserting, “I’m litty, diamonds drippy, eat my pussy, that’s a quickie / I’m twerkin’, pussy poppin’ like a Cuban bitch at tootsies.” It’s clear that “Bad bitches on the paper chase” not only speaks to City Girls’ success as musicians but also ‘making it rain’ given, um, the twerking – bands and such. All the while that these highly confident and highly sexual rhymes are being dropped, the Girls are supported by sleek production by 🎛 Mr. Hank. “While this ‘ass’ anthem won’t educate you, you can join City Girls and shake yours too.

4. Thomas Rhett, “South Side”

💿 Tangled Up • 🏷 Valory • 📅 2015

Thomas Rhett, Tangled Up Deluxe [📷: Valory]In 2021, 🏆 Grammy-nominated country musician 🎙 Thomas Rhett made the decision to be ‘country again,’ or so the title track from his album, 💿 Country Again (Side A) touts.  But, before he returned to his roots, Rhett was experimenting with a vast number of styles beyond country.  A prime example of this is on his intriguing sophomore album, 💿 Tangled Up, specifically the hip-hop country amalgam that is the third song, 🎵 “South Side.”

“South Side” commences with the hilarious line, “Please commence shaking your south side.”  Obviously, Rhett isn’t referring to a particular southern part of the actual south, but rather the butt. “South Side,” of course is incredibly silly and lacks transcendence, but that doesn’t keep the record from being entertaining.  The chorus is golden:

“Now people on the left, shake your south side
People on the right, shake your south side
Every single girl, shake your south side
All around the word, shake your south side.”

Adding to the allure is the beat and of course, the saxophone! Thank you, Thomas Rhett, for showing us that country singers can shake a$$ too!

“Shake it like salt, shake it like pepper
Shake it like champagne, number one record
Shake it ‘til you just can’t shake it no more
Shake that thing all the way to the floor, uh.”

5. Jennifer Lopez, “Booty”

Ft. Pitbull

💿 A.K.A.• 🏷 Capitol • 📅 2014

Jennifer Lopez, A.K.A. [📷: Capitol]“Big, big booty / What you got a big booty…” Honestly, that’s about the ‘size’ of it (see what I did there)! 💿 A.K.A. was the right title for the 2014 album by 🎙 Jennifer Lopez.  In some respects, there’s an element of shock value about the project. The video for promo single 🎵 “I Luh You Papi” flipped the script, objectifying men instead of women.  Then you have a song that’s called 🎵 “Booty,” which sets itself to be suggest, sexy, and perhaps, unapologetic.

“Booty” draws attention because of what it’s about, but this ode to the butt is simplistic to the nth degree.  Yeah, it’s sexy and fun enough, but it’s also straightforward. The production (Lopez, 🎛 Cory Rooney, and 🎛 Benny Medina) works well – no complaints there with that infectious, hard hitting beat. “All the sexy girls in the party / Go and grab a man, bring him to the dance floor,” Lopez sings on the chorus.  She continues, “Go on let them jeans touch you while you’re dancing / It’s his birthday give him what he ask for.” Also joining J. Lo is none other than ‘Mr. Worldwide,’ 🏆 Grammy-winner 🎙 Pitbull.  Does he ‘bark’? Well, he serves up what we’re accustomed from hearing, basically (“She’s got the booty that’ll swallow a thong”).
