“We got it together, didn’t we? / We’ve definitely got our thing together, don’t we baby?” Ooh wee, 🎙 Barry White! The deep-voiced soul singer had a mega-hit with 🎵 “You’re the First, The Last, My Everything”.  White visited the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 frequently, which is a big accomplishment for a soul musician. “You’re the First, The Last, My Everything” peaked at no. 2, just missing the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100.  That, my friends, is a pop hit – crossover appeal baby!

So, why is “You’re the First, The Last, My Everything” so epic? It starts with Barry White, honestly.  His baritone vocals are dope AF – period.  Beginning with the intro, the sexiness and sex appeal is on 10.  There’s just something about the masculinity that he sings with – and it’s NOT toxic!  White has a once-in-a-lifetime musical instrument to work with – a tone that is to die for.  Beyond the voice, what about the lushness of the music? The orchestration and production are elite.  And thematically, love is the modus operandi.

What might be most interesting about “You’re the First, The Last, My Everything” is its origin. Co-writer 🎼 ✍ Peter Sterling Radcliffe initially wrote this as a country record! Of course, White transformed it into an utterly sublime disco/soul masterpiece.  🎼 ✍ Tony Sepe is also credited as a songwriter.

Final Thoughts 💭

Barry White is the man, period.  With endless hits on his hands, 🎵 “You’re the First, The Last, My Everything” ranks among the crème de la crème.  Who would’ve thought he could transform a country song into such a catchy, potent disco record? Mr. White was a gift.
