Following his “verification” on “Verified,” A$AP Ferg claims that you’re “Not the Boy” on his second single released Friday, June 29.
“Whole shoes, n***a, you are not the choice / Designer boy, bet I make your momma moist.” To quote Father John Misty (and countless others), “Holy Shit”! First, A$AP Ferg was “Verified”, but not validated by a “blue check mark.” Now, on his second, incredibly brief single (under two minutes), the New York rapper is “Not the Boy.” Actually, it’s who he addresses who is “not the boy.” Much like “Verified,” Ferg drops the chorus shortly after the intro. Prior to the aforementioned excerpt, he raps:
“Prada boys, n***a, you are not the boy / Llama boy, you don’t want no drama boy / Whole shoes, n***a, you are not the choice / Designer boy, bet I make your momma moist.”
On the verses, A$AP Ferg is definitely horny, likely where the moist line connects from the chorus. Between verses, it should be noted that there’s an interlude as opposed to the return of the chorus (“Set it on fire / Let it go up in flames”). The second verse in particularly finds him dropping freaky references, such as “We can do it in the kitchen” and “Go and bust that ass while I laugh, Eddie Griffin.” All this occurs over looped, banging, minor key production.
Final Thoughts
So, how does the second A$AP Ferg single released in the same week stack up? “Not that Boy” gets the edge over verified IMO. That said, this still isn’t anything the least bit transcendent. The sound of the record definitely gives it a lift, though Ferg has the personality to pull it off as well.
