Ah, it’s time to get cozy and totally cover up! In COVERS, we highlight a musician or band covering songs by another musician (likely a popular musician). COVERS separates itself from a related column, Head 2 Head 🗣️ only highlighting the musician who covers, as opposed to the original/most famous performer. COVERS is open to both established musicians and musicians who may not be as well-known. In the 13th edition of COVERS (2023), 🎙 Ariel Posen delivers a compelling rendition of 🎵 “Sistermamalover”, originally performed by 🎙 Lenny Kravitz.

Well, the signature chordal, rhythm guitar riffs get a bit more spice, differentiating it instantly.  The core of “Sistermamalover” remains, particularly the riffs during the chorus section, but Posen doesn’t merely play it straight.

Vocally, Ariel Posen has a different voice than Kravitz, so naturally, as he sings, it hits different.  Notably, Posen opts to be more playful than overt, which ends up being successful.  You know what might even been more successful than his vocals? His electrifying guitar solo.  The distorted effects and his superb rhythmic cues make it #WINNING, period.  In an age where few people are revisiting 🎵 “Sistermamalover”, one of the best songs from Kravitz’s 2004 album, 💿 Baptism, Ariel Posen does a bang up job covering it.
