Aminé, Good For You © RepublicOn “Blinds,” confident Oregon up-and-coming rapper Aminé “closes the blinds” because “I want to see me shine.” Shine he does in under a minute-and-a-half.

So, since dropping “REDMERCEDES,” Aminé has released numerous singles ahead of his debut album, Good for You. The question is why doesn’t “REDMERCEDES” appear on the album? Besides his breakthrough “Caroline,” Aminé has released “Turf,” “Blinds,” and “Heebiejeebies” featuring Kehlani.  For our purposes, we’ll focus on the shortest of those singles, “Blinds.” Without further ado, lets open the curtain – rather the blinds!

The brief “Blinds” commences with a hard-hitting, soulful beat. Given its soulfulness, there’s an old school vibe established before any additional instrumentation enters into the mix.  Eventually, an active, jazzy bass line enters in at the same time Aminé begins spitting. It’s followed by some additional keyboard (synthesizer) work.  What does Aminé spit about? Money, success, others being jealous, women, sex… that’s about the size of it.

After a few bars from the MC, the rapping transforms into singing on the chorus.

“Close the blinds / I want to see me shine / Don’t want to hear you chime / I want to see me glisten.”

Basically, this is his come up, and he’s going to take time to let it set in. He delivers one final verse, characterizing himself as the “crème de la crème” at one point.  His most confident line closes out this one-and-a-half-minute cut:

“Aminé don’t give a f*ck because I know that I’m the G.”

That’s confidence right there.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, not much can be said about one-and-half-minutes. But, actually, Aminé makes it worthwhile.  He doesn’t offer anything profound, but you appreciate his confidence and desire to be the next big thing.  He’s sort of like LaVar Ball – he’s already spoken “it into existence.”
