AJ Mitchell, No Plans [Photo Credit: Epic]On his latest single, the carefree “No Plans,” rising teen-pop artist AJ Mitchell is looking to enjoy his youth while it last, putting aside the cares of the world.

“No plans, grab some girls and bring ‘em down to San Fran / We just wanna party and bullshit.” Clearly, rising pop artist AJ Mitchell isn’t too worried about the more meaningful things in life. Why should he be, he’s 17 – there’s time for some of the “bullshit” he references on the chorus of his new single, “No Plans.” Last time Mitchell was featured on The Musical Hype, he was singing about “Girls”.  Once more, he’s singing about girls.  But, again, he’s young – can you blame the teen?

“No Plans” is chocked-full of swagger, amplified by slick talk and some profanity.  If you’re hoping for f-bombs, look elsewhere – only s-bombs here.  On the first verse, it’s Friday, and the boy is bored… bummer. SO, on the pre-chorus that follows, he decides he should “Switch it up a bit / Go spend all my money for the hell of it / Call up all my homies say, ‘let’s roll with it’… / Do a deep dive in the DMs.” Obviously, the partying and bullshit follows on the chorus.  Perhaps the same could be said of the ridiculous second verse, where Mitchell references skinny dipping, stolen clothes, and ultimately being carefree, “Long as we young and we free.” Marteen joins the mix on the third verse, with the same effect as Mitchell’s first two.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “No Plans” suits AJ Mitchell superbly.  It’s not ‘transcendent’, but that’s obvious by the title, right? “Party and bullshit” ruined any sense of transcendence as well… Anyways, vocally, Mitchell sounds fantastic, particularly when he ascends into his upper register and drops those sick ad-libs.  The production is sleek, embracing the blurred lines of pop and R&B. Again, if you haven’t checked out this rising teen-pop artist, you’re missing out.
