ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder, and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉,  and 6 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Adele remaining no. 1 on the Billboard 200 while 🎙 Juice WRLD debuts posthumously in the runner-up slot.

Billboard 200 📉

💭 🎙 Adele spends her fifth consecutive week atop the Billboard 200 with the unstoppable 💿 30. According to Keith Caulfield of Billboard, she’s moved another 212,000 units this week!

💭 Rapper 🎙 Roddy Ricch earns the highest debut on the Billboard 200. His sophomore album, 💿 Live Life Fast, debuts at no. 4.  His numbers – 62,000 units – are down ⬇ from his 2019 debut, 💿 Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, are down (no. 1, 101,000 units).

💭 After debuting in the runner-up slot last week, 🎙 Juice WRLD sees 💿 Fighting Demons spend a second week in the top-10, albeit it ⬇ down 7 spots to no. 9.

💭 Comedian/singer 🎙 Bo Burnham re-enters the Billboard 200 at no. 10 with 💿 Inside (The Songs).  The album has spent 22 weeks on the charts and peaked at no. 7.

💭 It hasn’t happened much in 2021, but country singer 🎙 Morgan Wallen sees his double-platinum album, 💿 Dangerous: The Double Album, slide outside of the top 10 (⬇ no. 6 to no. 12).

💭 K-pop collective 🎙 NCT debut at no. 20 with 💿 Universe: The 3rd Album, Neo Culture Technology (2021).

💭 After a so-so debut at no. 22, 🎙 Rick Ross sees 💿 Richer Than I Ever Been free fall to no. 124 in its second week. Like, day-ummm! Things were worst for 🎙 Alicia Keys, whose final majoralbum prior to becoming independent, 💿 Keys, fell off the Billboard 200 completely following its modest no. 41 debut.

💭 That new 🎙 Chief Keef album – well – it didn’t perform well! 💿 4NEM launches tepidly at no. 141.

Billboard Hot 100 📉

💭 🎙 Mariah Carey spends a second consecutive week at no. 1 with her beloved Christmas classic, 🎵 “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

💭 Only two singles in the top-10 of the Hot 100 this week are NOT holiday songs: 🎙 Adele, 🎵 “Easy on Me” (no. 5) and 🎙 The Kid LAROI & 🎙 Justin Bieber, 🎵 “Stay” (no. 9).

💭 🎙 Lil Durk earns the highest debut on the Hot 100 (no. 14) with 🎵 “Broadway Girls” featuring 🎙 Morgan Wallen.

💭 Worth noting, 🎵 “Linus & Lucy,” the iconic, instrumental jazz cut from 📺 Charlie Brown by 🎙 Vince Guaraldi Trio, debuts on the Hot 100 for the first time ever at no. 37.

💭 Rapper 🎙 Roddy Ricch earns some new entries from his 💿 Live Life Fast album beginning with 🎵 “25 Million” bowing at no. 77.

💭 The final new entry on the Hot 100, “Do It To It,” arrives from 🎙 Acraze featuring the original artist, 🎙 Cherish at no. 97.
