AC/DC, Power Up [Photo Credit: Leidseplein Presse, B.V.]AC/DC makes a powerful return with “Shot in the Dark,” the promo single from their highly anticipated 2020 studio album, POWER UP.

“My mission is to hit ignition!” Fair enough AC/DC, fair enough! The iconic Australian hard rock band is back with a brand-new studio album, POWER UP, which arrives November 13, 2020.  Promoting the new LP is a fantastic, hard-rocking single, “Shot in the Dark.”

“Shot in the Dark” is the optimal length, just crossing the three-minute mark; no need to belabor or needlessly draw things out. The tone is set from instantly, sounding like vintage AC/DC.  Those guitar riffs at the beginning are fantastic, not to mention how the guitars roars and the drums pound (with ample cymbal) throughout. There’s definitely great production by Brendan O’Brien, who helps to bring out the best in the veteran band.

Those signature, high-pitched vocals by Brian Johnson are potent as always. He’s incredibly assertive, never afraid to dig in. The lyrics are pretty simple and straightforward, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! The best moment comes by way of the epic chorus, which is memorable, with sing-along lyrics:

“A shot in the dark make it feel alright
A shot in the dark all through the whole night
A shot in the dark, yeah, electric sparks
A shot in the dark beats a walk in the park.”

Final Thoughts

AC/DC shine on “Shot in the Dark,” period.  While the veterans don’t bring anything ‘brand-new’ or particularly innovative to the table, “Shot in the Dark” is simply a good, hard rock record.  It won’t supplant the classics but, it’s a great addition to a stellar catalogue.
