A$AP Ferg & Elle Fanning, Moon River [Photo Credit: RCA / Tiffany & Co.]East Coast rapper A$AP Ferg and Actress and Model Elle Fanning join forces for a remix of the classic “Moon River” for Tiffany and Co. The results are a ‘hot mess.’

Sometimes – most times honestly – a classic should be left untouched.  That’s totally what SHOULD HAVE happened on a cover of “Moon River,”performed by A$AP Ferg and Elle Fanning.  Before even considering the iconic song at hand, examine the pairing.  Actress/model Fanning paired with East Coast Trap Lord A$AP Ferg? Odd much?  Nonetheless, the two oddly remix “Moon River” for a new Tiffany and Co. ad. Take a listen, and it’s clear this wasn’t meant to be an album single for either artist.

“Moon River” begins with Elle Fanning singing the beloved, traditional melody.  Perhaps its not the most scintillating take, but it’s respectable. Then comes A$AP Ferg, definitely moving away from the well-known tune in favor of bars.  Okay, Ferg does bars well, BUT this is just a messy fusion of two unlike things.  The arrangement, the mix, and everything just feels off, even for a commercial mind you.  The hip-hop identity sticks for a bit, then there’s traditional pop, before integrating the hip-hop again.  UGH!

Final Thoughts

Five words: This is a hot mess.  There’s no other way around it. Or maybe just one word: NOOOOO! We’ll leave it at that.
