Best Country Solo Performance

Thomas Rhett, Life Changes © Big Machine“Body Like a Back Road” (Sam Hunt)

“Losing You” (Alison Krauss)

“Tin Man” (Miranda Lambert)

“I Could Use a Love Song” (Maren Morris)

“Either Way” (Chris Stapleton)

Notable Snub: Brett Young, “In Case You Didn’t Know”

Reaction: Country has had a so-so year in the big scheme of things.  Even so, this list of nominees is okay.  Some might debate the inclusion of Sam Hunt single “Body Like a Back Road,” but to its credit it was a big hit. Personally, it would’ve been nice to see Brett Young get a nod for his hit, “In Case You Didn’t Know.”

Best Country Album

Cosmic Hallelujah (Kenny Chesney)

Heart Break (Lady Antebellum)

The Breaker (Little Big Town)

Life Changes (Thomas Rhett)

From A Room: Volume 1 (Chris Stapleton)

Notable Snub: The Weight of These Wings, (Miranda Lambert)

Reaction: All in all, this field is chocked-full of big names.  Chesney, Rhett, and Stapleton all had respectable runs with their respective album.  Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town are reliable. Surprisingly, Miranda Lambert doesn’t find her double album, The Weight of These Wings, among the nominees.
