16 Rap Songs That Reference Lean16 Rap Songs That Reference Lean features songs courtesy of Future, Rae Sremmurd, Travis Scott, and YG among others.

Rap has a drug problem – what’s new? In case you missed it, on February 8, The Musical Hype published a playlist comprised of 25 rap songs that reference Xanax.  On our latest, druggy, rap playlist, we move beyond prescription pills to the cup.  In that cup, my friends, is lean, a combination of cough medicine, soft drinks, and hard, fruit-flavored candy.  While rappers glamorize Purple Drank (also Sizzurp), it can cause health problems and ultimately, death in given circumstances.  On this list, we examine 16 rap songs that reference lean.

1. Future, “Thought It Was a Drought”

DS2 • Epic • 2016

“I just f*cked your b*tch in some Gucci flip flops

I just had some b*tches and I made ‘em lip lock

I just took a piss and I seen codeine coming out

We got purple Actavis, I thought it was a drought.”

There is no more fitting way to begin this list than with Future.  Even better, Future gave us the perfect song about lean.  As catchy as “Thought it Was a Drought” is, it’s incredibly irresponsible. But then, so is DS2 as a whole, and don’t even get started on Future himself. It also appeared on 25 Rap Songs That Reference Xanax.

2. Lil Pump, “Gucci Gang”

Lil Pump • 2017

“My lean cost more than your rent, ooh (it do)

Your momma still live in a tent, yuh

Still slangin’ dope in the ‘jects, huh?

Me and my grandma take meds, ooh…”

Also, worth noting, there’s a lyric the asserts, “Lil Pump still sell that meth…” That may be more troubling than the lean.

3. XXXTENTACION, “Look at Me!”

Revenge • Bad Vibes Forever / EMPIRE • 2017

“You put a gun on my mans, ayy

I put a hole in your parents, ayy

I just got lean on my Ksubis, ayy…”

Another example of glamorizing lean, which is incredibly dangerous.  That said, since Jahseh Onfroy spilt some on his expensive jeans, that’s less of the potentially deadly substance going into his system, right?

4. Rae Sremmurd, “Black Beatles”

Sremmlife 2 • Interscope • 2016

“They seen that Guwop and them just came in through the side door

There’s so much money on the floor we buyin’ school clothes

Why you bring the money machine to the club for?

Pint of lean, pound of weed, and a kilo.” – Gucci Mane

Drugs, drugs, and more drugs.  Lean, marijuana, and cocaine – not a good mix Gucci.

5. Desiigner, “Panda”

New English • Def Jam • 2016

“I got broads in Atlanta

Twistin’ dope, lean and the Fanta…”

Oh Desiigner.  Why not merely just drink the Fanta by itself – it’s a marvelous drink.  But no, you’ve got to twist dope and lean with your soda.  Geeze.  Gee Lowery does an awesome job of translating “Panda” into English BTW.

6. A$AP Ferg, “Work (Remix)”

Ft. A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Trinidad James & ScHoolboy Q

Trap Lord • RCA • 2013

“Baby, don’t pray for me, pray for the weak

I’m drinkin’ lean, it help me sleep…” – French Montana

French Montana, are you nuts? If you keep drinking lean before you go to bed, you just might NOT wake up. “Work (Remix)” also appeared on 25 Rap Songs That Reference Xanax.

7. T-Wayne, “Nasty Freestyle”

Nasty Freestyle – Single • Unauthorized Entertainment • 2015

“I’m a full-time player, hoppin’ out in alligator

Sippin’ lean and Now and Later, homie, I’ll annihilate ya.”

C’mon T-Wayne – Lame, lame, LAME!  Furthermore, those Now and Later chews are perfectly awesome on their own without being mixed into the lean.

8. Future, “Low Life”

Ft. The Weekend

EVOL • Epic • 2016

“I turn the Ritz into a lean house

This is the sixth time getting’ kicked out

I can’t feel my face, I’m on Adderall, nauseous

N*ggas tryna ride my f*ckin’ wave, now they salty.”

For Future, it always seems to be one big high.  Song after song, the drugs are ample.

9. Kendrick Lamar, “I”

To Pimp a Butterfly • Interscope • 2015

“They wanna say it’s a war outside, bomb in the street

Gun in the hood, mob of police

Rock on the corner with a line for the fiend

And a bottle full of lean and a model on the scheme…

Dreams of reality’s peace

Blow steam in the face of the beast

Sky could fall down, wind could cry now

Look at me motherf*cker, I smile.”

There’s a lot of bad, according to Kendrick Lamar, including crack and lean. Despite all the adversity and ill in the world, he rises above and smiles victoriously.

10. Migos, “Slippery”

Culture • 300 Entertainment • 2017

“Lean on rocks (Act) perkys, mollies, xannies, rocks (roxies)

Oxycontin (oxyies) Takeoff, I’m your med doc (Takeoff!).” – Takeoff, Verse 4

One thing’s for damn sure, it’s wouldn’t be a great idea to leave your medical care in the hands of Takeoff, or any of the Migos for that matter.   “Slippery” also appeared on 25 Rap Songs That Reference Xanax.

11. Rae Sremmurd, “No Flex Zone”

Sremmlife • Interscope • 2015

“Swae Lee, Lee Swae, it’s the same difference

H2O, lean, same thing.”

NO, SWAE LEE, water and lean are extremely different! Apparently, the rapper’s been drinking too much and has ruined his taste buds and his brain.

12. Travis Scott, “Beibs in the Trap”

Ft. NAV

Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight • Epic • 2016

“I just poured an 8 in a liter

Throw some Jolly Ranchers in, make it sweeter…” – NAV

Clearly, NAV is mixing up some drank… Later, he spits:

“Told Frost bring the water, no Fiji

Free Stix, I’m poured up and I’m leanin’.”

The high continues. “Beibs in the Trap” also appeared on 25 Rap Songs That Reference Xanax.

13. YG, “My N*gga”

My Krazy Life • Def Jam • 2014

“You lookin’ for some lean, lemme call my n*gga

He sell it for the high, I need all mines n*gga

Some n*ggas smoke smoke, some n*ggas drink drank…”

Self-explanatory. YG can get you hooked up with lean.  So, can any number of other rappers.  In fact, it doesn’t even have to be a rapper that hooks you up.  Drugs are everywhere.

14. Rocko, “U.O.E.N.O.”

Ft. Rick Ross & Future

Gift of Gab 2 • Rocky Road • 2013

“This is a thousand-dollar cup of lean and U.O.E.N.O. it.” – Future

Of course Future is dropping a druggy line from the hook of this catchy rap record.  The problem is, “U.O.E.N.O” had bigger problems than lean itself when it came out.  Rick Ross dropped an incredibly irresponsible date-rape line.

“Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”

Sick.

15.Kirko Bangz, “Drank in My Cup”

Drank in My Cup • 2011 • Warner Bros.

“H-Town so I made for lean.” – Verse 1

“I got this drank in my cup.” – Hook

Hint: the drank in his cup is purple drank.

16. Rob $tone, “Chill Bill”

Ft. Spooks & J. Davis

“I’m sippin’ water out the Voss

Got lean all in my f*ckin’ Sprite.” – J. Davis

Like so many of the products that appear on this list associate with lean, Sprite is delicious all by itself. Furthermore, why all the aggression from J. Davis adding that expletive in front of it? What did Sprite ever do to you J. Davis for you to cuss it out?
