“15 Boring Songs That Are Totally Exciting” features music by AK, Ariana Grande, Tessa Violet, Tyga & Curtis Roach, and Wallows.
If you are BORED, particularly “Ultra Bored” like Zack Eckert, well, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re checking this playlist out at the date of publication, you are well aware of how COVID-19 has changed lives worldwide, and definitely upped the boringness. The good news is, while all of the songs here are boring, well, they’re not really boring. That’s right, this playlist may have boring songs – eight of them hailing from 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored – but ultimately, none of the 15 songs are a total bore.
Instead, we have 15 BORING SONGS THAT ARE TOTALLY EXCITING. That’s definitely ‘hell yeah’ worthy if I do say so myself! Musicians gracing this totally NOT bored affair include AK (“Got Bored”), Ariana Grande (“Break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored”), Tessa Violet (“Bored”), Tyga & Curtis Roach (“Bored in the House”), and Wallows (“Are You Bored Yet?”) among others. Prepare yourself for total mind stimulation!

1. Tyga & Curtis Roach, “Bored in the House”
“Bored in the House” • Last Kings / Columbia • 2020
“Okay, I’m bored in the house and I’m in the house bored / Bored in the house and I’m the house bored.” Hmm, that’s, um, definitely enthralling stuff Curtis Roach. Here’s the thing, though. Roach and Tyga are actually ‘relatable’ on the utterly dumb, minimalist banger “Bored in the House”. Both rappers were bored AF, so they decided to make us all less bored with the minimalist, COVID-19 banger, “Bored in the House.” Does either rapper say anything noteworthy? Absolutely not, but with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting everybody in 2020, well “Bored in the House” definitely has more relevance than it ordinarily might.
“Bored in the House” hearkens back to the skeletal bangers of old (Think “Wait (The Whisper Song)”). After Roach ‘brings it on home’ with the chorus and the utterly repetitive post-chorus (“I’m bored, bored…”), Tyga goes into his usual, sexed-up spill. Naturally, he “Need [him] a thick chick” because he’s “Sittin’ on the couch… goin’ through Netflix.” Even if he’s ‘healthy at home,’ he still thinks with his penis: “At home like Depot, ayy (Depot) / She gon’ suck it like mosquito, ayy.” Yeah, really rousing stuff there…
Roach gets his own verse to play up the effects of COVID-19, totally setting the mood: “I’m in the crib like an infant / With some Badu playin’, burning incense.” I would argue he has the more intriguing verse, with lines like “I’ma socialize at a distance / I’m living my best life, minding my business” and more specific examples of epic boringness that often eludes busy celebs like “Ramen noodles every night for my din-din / Hulu, binge watchin’ episodes of Ben-10.” Sure, “Bored in the House” goes hella dumb – but, it definitely fits the times. Transcendent it’s not, but hey, we all need something to lift our spirits.
2. Jack Bruno, “Someday (Before U Get Bored)”
4u (EP) • Winning Team Music • 2020
If you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing Jack Bruno, well, you need to get on that! Per his official Facebook page, he’s “An LA based singer, rapper, multi-instrumentalist and producer who cooks up a modern punked-up style of his own.” That description (and realization of such talents), coupled with Bruno’s distinct look makes him quite intriguing. He shows backs up such intrigue on a superb, totally must hear single, “Someday (Before U Get Bored).” I’ll assure you that you won’t be the least bit bored listening to this song!
According to Bruno (via a Hollywood Life interview), “That whole song is about the beginning of a relationship.” He goes on to provide further insight on the relationship, saying, “It’s funny because, in this scenario of me writing that song, that relationship was wrong. I was totally wrong.” Hey, at least he’s honest, and honesty is the best policy! But beyond that background, there’s something else that makes “Someday (Before U Get Bored)” pretty cool – he samples The Strokes! This helps to give the record its distinct sound while also being totally nostalgic to the band in their heyday. Nah, “Someday” didn’t need to be remade or transformed, but Jack Bruno uses this classic and makes it special in his own way.
3. Tiagz, “Bored in My House (Quarantine)”
“Bored in My House (Quarantine)” • 736948 Records DK • 2020
If you couldn’t gather it from the title, Tiagz is bored – very bored. “I’m so bored in my house tiktoking with their friends at that big nice house.” “Bored in My House (Quarantine)” is one of many products of the ‘spawn of Satan’ otherwise known as the COVID-19 pandemic. The Canadian rapper keeps it short on this anthem of utter boredom – under two minutes to be precise. His un-energetic approach certainly doesn’t make it a rousing effort but that’s actually the point – the man is bored out of his mind!
What does make “Bored in My House” compelling is the production; it’s certainly colorful sounding. And, even if Tiagz isn’t exactly thrilled to perform, it’s still, um, a ‘charming’ performance you might say. A deadpan approach works out pretty well for some – looking at you 21 Savage. I’ll leave you with one last ‘gem’ from Tiagz:
“Anyway, anyway you Did not know what I been through How could you have a clue You are not Scooby-Doo.”

4. Jeff Bernat, “Bored”
“Bored” • Jeff Bernat • 2020
Guess what happened to Jeff Bernat? He got totally – wait for it – “Bored.” Even so, the R&B singer asserts, “I’d rather be bored / Bored doing nothing with you.” That’s so stinking sweet, especially when there’s so much boredom in 2020 to float a totally bored boat. In case you are unfamiliar with Bernat, he’s a Filipino-American singer/songwriter. The vibes are smooth and chill AF on “Bored.”
The boredom has been real to the nth degree for some of musicians on this list. That’s not the case for Jeff Bernat. He sounds amazing – quite smooth, soulful, and dedicated. While “Bored” is a contemporary R&B cut, it has ‘throwback’ vibes written all over it. This is that ‘grown and sexy’ brand of R&B – the type that ‘makes you feel some type of way.’ That type of way, my friends, is NOT boredom. Behold, the chorus in all of its glory, accompanied by guitar, keyboards, and drum programming:
“I’d rather be bored Bored doing nothing with you I’d rather be up in my bed, watching some Netflix Girl, if there’s nothing to do I’ma do it with you.”
5. AK, “Got Bored”
“Got Bored” • AK Music • 2020
“Slow it down / Slow it down, a second though / Hold it down, for my roots seven thirty dos / I don’t want, ever be on a pedestal / You and I, we’re the same, don’t forget it, no.” If you need a banger in your life, look no further than “Got Bored” by my man, AK! If you haven’t become hip to the New Jersey rapper, well, the time is now. Mark my words, there is nothing the least bit boring about AK nor the song at hand. The aforementioned chorus is just one of many selling points about this totally NOT bored gem.
The biggest thing that stands out about “Got Bored” is AK himself. His confidence is through the roof, and his flow – top-notch!
“Want me trapped inside my bedroom where this started Well I feel a little differently Went from remixing beats and now we here Rapping over beats, I made my fucking self But I’ma chill, let me…”
The energy is absolutely infectious – you can tell he loves what he’s doing. Furthermore, the production is epic. AK certainly has fuel for the fire.
“Everything I’m scared to say is why I write so many songs Different flow sand melodies, a lot of them don’t have any Types of bars I know y’all want, so I be scared to let ‘em see The light of day, ‘cause that’s the vibe that probably won’t really hit But fuck that, I get it’s business but my gut ain’t feelin it…”
6. Ariana Grande, “Break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored”
Thank u, next • Republic • 2019
“You got me some type of way / Ain’t used to feelin’ this way / I do not know what to say / But I know I shouldn’t think about it.” Hmm, yield not to temptation! In the context of thank u, next, the fifth studio album by Ariana Grande, “Break up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” has the monstrous task of following number one hits “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next”. Nonetheless, this girlfriend-driven single is another worthwhile moment from thank u, next in all respects.
Grande continues to shine with stunning vocals, while the production remains slick, and the songwriting entertaining and ultimately, sound. The theme and point of the record is pretty obvious, right? Right.
“Break up with your girlfriend Yeah, yeah, ‘cause I’m bored You could hit it in the mornin’ Yeah, yeah, like it’s yours I know it ain’t right But I don’t care Break up with your girlfriend Yeah, yeah, ‘cause I’m bored.”
“Break up with you Girlfriend, I’m Bored” has previously appeared on 10 Alluring Boyfriend or Girlfriend Songs, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored, and the most prestigious of the bunch, 51 Best Songs of 2019.

7. Carlie Hanson, “Bored with You”
Junk (EP) • Warner • 2019
“Even if there’s something to do / I’d rather be bored with you.” I couldn’t agree more Carlie Hanson, as long as he’s totally worth the time girl! “Bored with You” appears as the spirited opener of Hanson’s 2019 EP, Junk. That’s certainly a title with a negative connotation, but I wouldn’t characterize the song at hand as junky in the least!
Early on, Hanson shows her hand. The aforementioned lyrics are not only the chorus, but also appear at the beginning of “Bored with You.” Then, she drops the bomb – but not the f-bomb. “Shit, where you at? / I’ve been laying alone in my room / And I’m out of my mind.” That portion of the first verse certainly speaks to a couple of things – boredom and, well, loneliness, horniness… For those who were sad she didn’t drop the f-bomb, well, she comes through on the pre-chorus:
“I want your company out on this balcony Don’t fuck around with me, come and smoke out with me Yeah, come and smoke out with me ‘Cause the truth is…”
Hmm, so she’s more interested in smoking than… To each his or her own, I suppose. Regardless, “Bored with You” is a great pop song. Hanson has plenty of attitude and energy, plus she sings pretty well. Furthermore, House of Wolf and Skylar Mones do a damn good job with the production.
8. Wallows, “Are You Bored Yet?”
Ft. Clairo
Nothing Happens • Atlantic • 2019
“I’m still thinking, let’s pretend to fall asleep now / When we get old, will we regret this? / Too young to think about all that shit / And stalling only goes so far when you’ve got a head start.” Dylan Minnette serves as the front man of alternative rock band Wallows. The actor and singer probably best known for his role portraying Clay Jensen on the polarizing Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why. Minnette, along with fellow members Cole Preston and Braeden Lemasters dropped their debut album, Nothing Happens, 2019. “Are You Bored Yet?” featuring Clairo, previously appeared on the playlist, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored, and the question-based list, 13 Splendid Songs Where the Men Ask Questions.
“Are You Bored Yet?” is alluring from start to finish. The record keeps things short, sweet, chill, and enigmatic among other things. Minnette and Clairo have excellent vocal chemistry, never losing their poise. You could say that both deliver performances that ‘float along’ as opposed to being incredibly assertive or commanding. Likewise, the production maintains similar composure, with its gentle, but totally fitting palette of sounds: piano, warm synths, and light, rhythmic drums. Just to reiterate, the chill is real on “Are You Bored Yet?”
“‘Cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset But I can’t help from asking, ‘Are you bored yet?’ And if you’re feeling lonely you should tell me Before this ends up as another memory Will you tell the truth, so I don’t have to lie? Will you tell the truth, so I don’t have to lie?”
Well, will you?
9. Tessa Violet, “Bored”
Bad Ideas • T∆G Music • 2019
“I’m so bored of wakin’ up, I’m so bored / Bored of what’s inside my cup, I’m so bored / I’m exhausted by my heart / I’d feel good if only I could finish what I start.” Like most of the musicians on this playlist, Tessa Violet is bored AF. The bigger picture though is that the indie pop singer/songwriter and vlogger is depressed. It’s certainly deceptive, given how exuberant and spirited “Bored” is. That, of course, is part of the genius of this standout from Bad Ideas, released in 2019.
Part of the exuberance and spirited nature of “Bored” comes from its colorful production. The pummeling drums definitely liven things up, while the layers of sounds (guitar, horn, keyboards, etc.) further sweeten things. Of course, the centerpiece is none other than Tessa Violet, her huge personality, and some tongue-n-cheek ad-libs (“Bored, hey!”). Of course, on the verses, we really see Violet being self-critical, self-deprecating, and clearly highlighting how mental health can affect us all. “Wish I weren’t so self-obsessed,” she sings on the first verse, continuing, “Wish that I could be the best / Excited with my words, but I’m nervous and I’m bored.”

10. Matt Fishel, “Bored of Straight Boys”
M/F • Young Lust • 2018
“And he can’t help himself from explaining / All the things he does to girls during sex.” Uh oh… We have an anti-straight boy anthem on our hands – nothing boring about that, right? Right! Matt Fishel isn’t feeling the actions and despicable attitude of straight guys on the standout from his 2018 album, M/F. On the infectious chorus, he proclaims, “And I’m so bored of straight boys / Who only wanna talk football, down alcohol, and hassle women.”
Fishel also incorporates same-sex references, including, “Somebody didn’t get enough bromance in as a teen, I suppose / Finally getting your chance to enjoy some same sex action with all of your bros.” And to all the straight boys out there, he’s “…Not calling all hetero boys out/…But we all know those bros who act like dickheads.” Colorful joint to say the least… maybe not for straight boys though. “Bored of Straight Boys” previously appeared on the playlists 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored, 14 Songs That Are About Boys or Girls, 100 Best Songs of 2018, and A Compendium Comprised of 100 Notable LGBTQ+ Songs.
11. Bea Miller, “bored”
Aurora • Hollywood • 2018
“But you don’t satisfy the hunger in my mind / ‘Cause our bodies are predictable.” Wow… Although Aurora, the 2018 LP by actress and pop artist Bea Miller wasn’t reviewed on The Musical Hype, several songs landed on our playlists including “crash&burn” (11 Songs Where the ‘Crash’ is Real) and “girlfriend” (10 Alluring Boyfriend or Girlfriend Songs). Also, the song at hand, “Bored,” appeared on the original bored-themed list, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored. Now, it reappears on the re-up!
On the slick “bored,” the relationship seems to be utterly predictable – boring in effect. Throughout the verses, Bea Miller highlights a connection that transcends beyond the bedroom. On the second verse she sings, “I just want some company / When I’m not between your sheets.” Unfortunately, the chorus finds Miller and her ‘boyfriend’ essentially ‘going through the motions’ again – hooking up ultimately.
“Know I’m gonna call you on the phone Know I’m gonna ask when you get home I already know what’s next I end up in your bed Then you gonna put back on your clothes Then I’m gonna wish I was alone But we never change a step And do it all again I’m bored.”
12. Tyler, the Creator, “Boredom”
Ft. Rex Orange County & Anna of the North
Flower Boy • Columbia • 2017
“Boredom got a new best friend / Cause boredom got a new best friend.” Rex Orange County, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Anna of the North handle vocal duties at the beginning of “Boredom”, one of many highlights from Flower Boy, the critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated 2017 album by rapper/producer Tyler the Creator. The bulk of the vocals are handled by Rex Orange County. Over the course of an intro, hook, and verse, they set up ‘boredom’ as a contradiction: “Find some time / Find some time to do something.”
“Boy, my bedroom floor is a cereal burial, I’m serious / I ate ‘em all, dry boxes, bodies, yeah, I caught ‘em…” Hmm, interesting. Tyler, the Creator enters the picture on the second verse, getting down to business as usual. He is, indeed, bored, by his own admission, followed by the aforementioned play on words, as well as exaggerated lyrics such as, “I’ve been in this fuckin’ room so long / My eyes are turning to drywall.” Eventually, Tyler, joined by the supporting cast close things out. It’s no rush, as the jazzy, lush, production work isn’t shortchanged over the course of its five-and-a-half-minute duration. “Boredom” appeared on the original bored playlist, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored.

13. Billie Eilish, “Bored”
13 Reasons Why (A Netflix Original Series Soundtrack) • Paramount / Interscope • 2017
“The games you played were never fun / You’d say you’d stay but then you’d run.” That’s the brief first verse, and the ‘second is like unto it’ – “I’m home alone, you’re God knows where / I hope you don’t think that shit’s fair.” Ah, matters of the heart seem to come into play on the song “Bored” which isn’t the least bit boring to say the least. Rising alternative pop phenom Billie Eilish sounds incredible on the low-key record, produced by FINNEAS, who just happens to be her brother BTW. “Bored” was a highlight from the soundtrack for the Netflix Original Series, 13 Reasons Why, released in 2017.
Vocally, Eilish sounds poised, polished, silky smooth, and enigmatic, all accurate characterizations of her sound and vibe so far in her career. Much like the aforementioned Bea Miller song of the same title, there’s no progression whatsoever occurring in the relationship. On the pre-chorus, Eilish asserts, “Giving you what you’re begging for / Giving you what you say I need, say I need,” clearly suggesting she’s skeptical to the nth degree. Such skepticism is confirmed on the chorus, where she sings:
“I’m not afraid anymore What makes you sure you’re all I need? (I need) Forget about it When you walk out the door and leave me torn You’re teaching me to live without it Bored, I’m so bored, I’m so bored, so bored.”
“Bored” previously appeared on the original bored-themed playlist, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored.
14. Blink-182, “Bored to Death”
California • BMG Rights Management • 2016
“And it’s a long way back from 17 / The whispers turn into a scream / And I… I’m not coming home.” Okay… Despite the fact that Tom DeLonge may or may not have been focusing his energies on UFOs, beloved punk-pop band Blink-182 made a comeback in 2016 with California. Replacing DeLonge was Matt Skiba (The Alkaline Trio) on vocals and guitar, while Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker remained on board. California didn’t contain material supplanting classics by the trio such as “All the Small Things,” “Dammit,” or “What’s My Age Again,” but proved to be an enjoyable, well-rounded affair. Among the highlights of the project is the song at hand, “Bored to Death.”
“Save your breath, I’m nearly / Bored to death and fading fast / Life is too short to last long.” “Bored to Death” gloriously commences with Travis Barker’s signature drum groove, sigh. The record references the past, present, and future. Apparently, the energetic standout also takes a jab at the aforementioned, supposed UFO-exploring Tom DeLonge, on the chorus, excerpted at the beginning of this paragraph. There was clearly tension between DeLonge and blink-182, while there have also been rumors of his return. Take it all with a grain of salt. Notably, Steve Aoki dropped a remix of the standout, which can be seen below. “Bored to Death” appeared on the original bored-themed playlist, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored.
15. Father John Misty, “Bored in the USA”
I Love You, Honeybear • Sub Pop • 2015
“Bored in the USA,” a highlight from the 2015 album I Love You, Honeybear, is seemingly absurd from the start: “How many people rise and say, ‘My brain’s so awfully glad to be here for yet another mindless day’.” Ultimately, Father John Misty (Josh Tillman) seems to be painting a portrait that many feel about their lives as they get older. Things change from being youthful and vivacious to being nothing short of a drag – a total bummer filled with bills, “beauty warps and fades,” and keeping “my prescriptions filled.” That ultimately includes the problems suffered in the USA with joblessness, economic issues, etc.
Most notably, “Bored in the USA” is a play on Bruce Springsteen’s more enthusiastic-sounding classic, “Born In the USA”. It should be noted that even the Springsteen record is critical of certain facets of life in the U.S.A. “Bored in The U.S.A.” just adds fuel to the fire.
“Bored in the USA” appeared on the original bored-themed playlist, 8 Songs That Certainly Won’t Leave You Bored.
