1. Lizzo, “About Damn Time”

Special » Nice Life / Atlantic » 2022

Lizzo, Special [📷: Nice Life / Atlantic]“It’s bad bitch o’clock, yeah, it’s thick-thirty / I’ve been through a lot, but I’m still flirty (Okay).” WOO! “About Damn Time” was easily a top-five track from 2022. Ultimately, the number one Billboard Hot hit won Lizzo the Grammy for Record Of The Year. “About Damn Time” benefits from magnificent production (Blake Slatkin and Ricky Reed) constructed with rhythm guitar, robust bassline, and a killer groove. The sound has a retro quality – think old-school R&B. This backdrop, Lizzo, who, from the beginning, is confident AF.  It is her attitude and high-flying vocals that make “About Damn Time” the hit that it is.  The chorus is incredibly catchy, led by that damn good titular lyric.  Also, what about that switch to rap in the second verse, which provides contrast? Furthermore, the bridge/outro is fun AF (“I’m coming out tonight” with its “oohs”). Ultimately, Lizzo ‘comes through’ on this  fun, groovy earworm that unsurprisingly received ample radio rotation and streams.

2. Green Day, “Fuck Off”

Saviors (edition de luxe) » Green Day / Reprise » 2025

Green Day, Saviors (Édition De luxe) [📷: Green Day / Reprise]“Fuck off / Fuck off / Just F-U-C-K O-F-F, fuck off.” Fuck yeah, Green Day 🖕🖕! “Fuck Off” is the 18th track from the legendary, punk rock band’s 2005 album, Saviors (edition de luxe). Band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool wrote “Fuck Off” while Armstrong and Rob Cavallo produced it. The title is in your face, as is the chorus, excerpted above in all its fuckin’ glory! It’s not all f-bombs for Billie Joe Armstrong and company, though they seem to give few of ‘em – fucks that is.  Yes, the chorus is ‘fucked up,’ but the verses and bridge avoid the fucks (I’m doing too much, I know 😝).

“Sucker, you’re a sucker / You’ve been suckered by hustlers and liars,” Armstrong asserts in the first verse. In the second, he characterizes them as stupid: “Undisputed, the madness and your babble /… Stick your Bible and shove it up – ” Hmm, it’s not difficult to finish the line.  So, who is Armstrong addressing? MAGA supporters.  Unapologetic to the nth degree, Billie Joe, who has never been shy regarding politics, tells them all to “fuck off,” colorfully offering a variation at the end: “Fuck off / Fuck off / Just F-U-C-K Y-O-U, fuck off.” Woo! Although brief (just over two minutes long), Armstrong and Green Day make their point loud and fuckin’ clear on “Fuck Off”.  Billie Joe is aggressive vocally, his guitar roars, Dirnt’s bass drives, and Cool’s drums pummel in the spirit of protest.  ‘Merica 🇺🇸!

3. Zheani, “BRING WET CUNT”

The Spiritual Meat Grinder » Zheani / Access » 2023

Zheani, The Spiritual Meat Grinder [📷: Zheani / Access]“I squirt for pictures Nikon / I lost all grace, oh my god / Goddess, female Adonis.” Word, Zheani!  She does not censor or tame anything on “BRING WET CUNT”, the second track from her 2023 mixtape, The Spiritual Meat Grinder.  Anytime that C-U-Next-Tuesday comes into play, boldness and an unapologetic nature are in full fruition.  As the excerpted lyrics suggest, Zheani is serving cunt without reservations.  “The way this cunt taste is famous / Don’t get me started ‘bout fragrance,” she asserts in the first verse, concluding, “I’m giving all you can eat / I’m giving them what they want.” Gah-day-um!

And what they want is wet cunt.  In the chorus, she confidently sings, “Bring, bring, bring, wet, bring / Bring we cunt to the dance floor.” The dance floor is lit in Zheani’s hands.  She penned “BRING WET CUNT” alongside producer Solsa who provides a fierce backdrop for her to sing over. In the second verse, Zheani keeps it NSFW.  “I’m obscene / Body is making a scene / They wanna bounce so let those girls go free.” Those girls, of course, are her breasts.  But, again, the focus is her… you know… “Pussy is Dior, and my sweat Prada.” Her most controversial moment occurs at the end of the second verse, where she sings, “Mother Mary, cunt’s my son.” Yikes! “BRING WET CUNT” is something else. That is an overstatement.  The shock value is full force on this electronic pop cut.

4. FINNEAS, “Starfucker”

For Cryin’ Out Loud! » OYOY, Inc. / Interscope » 2024

FINNEAS, For Cryin' Out Loud! [📷: OYOY, Inc. / Interscope]FINNEAS (Finneas O’Connell) commences his 2024 album, For Cryin’ Out Loud! with a bang. “You starfucker, I loved you / Against my better judgment,” he sings in the chorus of “Starfucker”.  He continues singing, “In the evening, when you’re leaving / Your promises have lost their meaning / I was yours before you were cool.” Word.  The Academy and Grammy-Award-winning musician solely penned and produced “Starfucker.” It catches the ears for several reasons.  Reason number one: the song title. Any time an f-bomb is involved, the ears perk up. With “Starfucker” being the title, as well as appearing in each of the choruses, you can’t miss it. Also, for good measure, the potty-mouthed musician drops the bomb in the second verse:  “Cross the names off a list / Cartier around your wrist / I was such an optimist / But you’re a fucking narcissist.” Oh, snap! That fucking is added for emphasis! What’s FINNEAS’ point? This person whom he sings about, and we assume was attached to, intentionally sought sex and associations with stars or celebrities, including him. He legitimately liked her, but she was faking it for bragging rights and clout.  Sad.  FINNEAS sounds amazing despite his disappointment and disgust with this lowly starfucker.  The instrumental accompaniment is sweet, including piano, expressive strings, guitar, bass, and drums. “Starfucker” is a marvelous song by FINNEAS who somehow manages to be painfully underrated as a solo artist.

5. Ice Spice & Gunna, “Bitch I’m Packin’”

Y2K! » Dolo Entertainment, Inc. / UMG Recordings, Inc. / 10K Projects, LLC » 2024

Ice Spice, Y2K! [📷: Dolo Entertainment, Inc. / UMG Recordings, Inc. / 10K Projects]“Bitch, I’m packin’ (Packin’, packin’) / Got the jatt on me (Yeah) / Yeah, he jackin’ me (Jackin’ me) / Got the racks on me (Got the racks on me).” WOO! “Bitch I’m Packin’” is the fourth track from Y2K!, the debut album by Grammy-nominated rapper, Ice Spice (Isis Gaston). “Bitch I’m Packin’” features malicious-sounding production by DJH, Ojivolta, and RIOTUSA.  Set in a minor key, it features dark synths and a sick beat (808s).  Ice Spice brings a compelling, confident flow. Per usual, her bars are unapologetic (“He got felonies (Grrah), he got hella weed (Grrah) / His bitch ridin’ really good, but I got better knees”). Beyond spitting the first verse, she drops the memorable chorus heard at the top of the song. It continues:

“Got the stack on me (Got the stack on me)

Got the strap on me (Got the strap on me)

I got what he need (Yeah)

He got what I need (Grrah)”

It’s not all Isis Gaston on “Bitch I’m Packin’.” Gunna brings the heat in the second verse.  He fits the vibe perfectly as he rides the beat with ease, barely breaking a sweat (“Hot moves in Prada jeans (Yeah), who got stuff I’m tryna see? (Stuff) / You my bitch, don’t lie to me, get an AP for my apology (For my apology)”). There is no shortage of confidence from either rapper on “Bitch I’m Packin’.”

6. Behemoth, “The Shit Ov God”

The Shit Ov God » Nuclear Blast » 2025

Behemoth, The Shit Ov God [📷: Nuclear Blast]“Eat my flesh, drink my blood / I am the shit ov God.” ‘Holy shit’ is an appropriate reaction to the intro of “The Shit Ov God”. The Polish metal band Behemoth is fascinating.  They have consistently embraced anti-Christian, blasphemous, and satanic elements in their music. That is part of their allure.  Behemoth remains ‘infernal as hell’ on the promo single and third track from their 13th studio album, The Shit Ov God.  “The Shit of God” is dark, heavy, and hellish. Who would have it any other way or expect something different? This shit that Nergal (Adam Darski) sings about, as well as the rest of the band plays, hits you right in the chest.  Nergal’s vocals are coarse and unrefined, while the lyrics are damning.  “You brighten the north, I rage down south,” Nergal sings in the first verse, continuing, “This heretic’s homily I offer thee now.” And, holy shit, the homily, which appears in the chorus, is heretical to the nth degree. Behemoth scrambles the letters of Jesus and In His Service, transforming them into pessimistic, unholy things:

“I for ingrate

E to eradicate

S for scorn

U for useless

S for the shame

J for the joyless

H to humiliate

S for thy son unloved

We are the shit ov God

We are the shit ov God.”

Wow… In the second verse, Nergal continues embracing the left-hand path: “They say you’re almighty, an illusion I quell / You serve up in Eden, I reign in hell.” Behemoth remains firmly committed to its renowned atheistic, satanic vibes on “The Shit Ov God”.

7. Sofi Tukker, “Throw Some Ass”

BREAD  » SOFI TUKKER, LLC » 2024

Sofi Tukker, Throw Some Ass [📷: SOFI TUKKER, LLC]“Last night I got lucky / I think I figured it out.” That’s positive, Sophie Hawley-Weld. She adds, “It feels so good to throw some ass.” There you have it.  A Sofi Tukker ass-shaking anthem, “Throw Some Ass”, which appears as the second track on their 2024 album, BREAD.  Sophie dominates most of “Throw Some Ass” but Tucker Halpern also gets into the mix.  With his low vocals, he chants towards the end, “Throw some ass, throw it down / Joga a bunda, hit the ground.” Sofi Tukker penned this carefree dance cut with Emily Warren, Laryssa Goulart LoureiroScott Harris, and producers Richard BeynonPeter ThomasMarcio Arantes, and Nick Sarazen. The premise of “Throw Some Ass” is dirty, sexy dancing.  In the first verse, Hawley-Ward needs medicine to cure her pain, whatever it is.  In the pre-chorus, after unsuccessfully trying cortisone and honey, she ‘gets lucky,’ leading to the twerking chorus:

“It feels so good to throw some ass

Turn it round, can you make it clap

Give the old man a heart attack

Free your mind when you throw it back

It feels so good to.”

Are the lyrics cringe? Yes, yes, yes.  Beyond the chorus, the Portuguese lyrics deserve a shout-out in the first bridge… second verse… however you want to label the section.  It is an interesting change of pace in this silly song.  So, what does one make of “Throw Some Ass”.  It’s danceable, with solid production work.  It’s also silly and should be taken with a grain of salt.

8. Spencer Sutherland, “Motherfucker”

The Drama » SM1 LLC » 2024

Spencer Sutherland, The Drama [📷: SM1 LLC]“People talking to me / Don’t you tell me how to live my life, yeah.” Preach, Spencer Sutherland, preach! The handsome and talented Midwest indie pop musician continues in the first verse of the profanely titled “Motherfucker”, “I’m not changing my demeanor / Grass ain’t green on the other side.” That, folks, is what you call ‘sticking to your guns.’ Bang, bang! So, where does that double-jointed curse word come into play? More on that later! “Motherfucker” is the seventh track from Sutherland’s 2024 album, The Drama. He and Tyler Mead wrote it. Sutherland, Keaton Stromberg, and STORYBOARDS produced it.

“Everybody’s sayin’ I’m gon’ change at the drop of a dime.” Hmm, are you, Spencer? He responds to the chatter, “If I fake it to make it, at least I had a good time.” Of course, for us to have even more of a good time listening to “Motherfucker,” we need the actual word to pop up as a lyric, right? Right.  And, it does, during the chorus. With haters gonna hate, Sutherland asserts, “So, I’m gon’ say it / Oh hallelujah, I’m that motherfucker, yeah.” Damn straight! And if that wasn’t enough, Spencer solidifies his status as ‘that motherfucker’ with his stuttered vocals in the post chorus. On the bridge, Sutherland would rather be high than try…. In the final chorus, he adds a bit extra stank to being that MFer!  Beyond the lyrics, Spencer Sutherland proves he’s one bad motherfucker when it comes to singing.  His vocals are gritty, oozing with blues, soul, and the spirit of rock and roll.  He showcases power as well as a convincing, ripe falsetto. Adding to the excellence is a mean-sounding musical backdrop that features bluesy, honky-tonk piano and nasty-sounding guitars.  I’m with Spencer when he tells the pianist to “play that shit.” And that shit he plays indeed.  “Motherfucker” is ‘in your face’ and it’s a motherfucking epic experience 🤘!

9. Taylor Swift, “Vigilante Shit”

Midnights » Taylor Swift » 2022

Taylor Swift, Midnights [📷: Taylor Swift]“Vigilante Shit” is uncharacteristic of Taylor Swift, which is part of the allure.  Sure, some of her past songs have some darker themes, but her vigilante spirit is lit on the eighth track from her Grammy-winning, 2022 pop album, Midnights. The production is minimal and moody – the perfect backdrop for a suspect-sounding joint like this one.  It’s somewhat surprising that Jack Antonoff produces.  It confirms his versatility: a producer with a wide range of abilities. Swift brings ample personality, with her subtle but sharp vocals.  Her attitude is a selling point as she asserts in the chorus, “I don’t start shit, but I can tell you how it ends.” Oh, snap! She goes on to state, “I don’t dress for friends / Lately, I’ve been dressin’ for revenge.” It doesn’t stop there as Taylor seems to challenge gender roles and how ladies are supposed to act.  The bridge is a prime example: “Ladies always rise above / Ladies know what people want / Someone sweet and kind and fun / The lady simply had enough.” Vigilante Shit” is the shit, of course – not in a poopy way, though!

10. Gunna, “GOT DAMN”

“GOT DAMN” » Young Stoner Life / 300 Entertainment » 2024

Gunna, GOT DAMN [📷: Young Stoner Life / 300 Entertainment]“On and off the jet, goddamn / Uh, I don’t get no rest, goddamn / I want my respect, goddamn / I been running up a check, yeah.” Woo! What do you do when you want to say a ‘double-jointed’ swear word but don’t want to offend Christians? You say, ‘got damn’ instead of goddamn. Gunna ‘censors’ his swear on the title of his late 2024 single, “GOT DAMN”.  Even so, he lets the ‘god damns’ fly in the chorus, censors be damned! Aviator Keyyz, Bloublood, Timpani Beatz, and J Kari produced “GOT DAMN” giving the melodic Atlanta rapper a smooth backdrop to drop his bars on. The vibe is L-I-T! With a sweet instrumental supporting him, Gunna showcases ample personality.  He is true to self–Wunna to the nth degree.  That said, he doesn’t say anything earth-shattering or game-changing.  “Fashion every day put her in Couture,” he spits in the first verse, continuing, “Uh, put in work, make that pussy purr.” Meow… Been there, done that.  “Goddamn, a nigga fortunate / Every day locked in, I make M’s off my voice,” he brags in the second verse, adding, “Brought out fifty G’s just to spend on my lil shawty.” Yeah, the rhymes aren’t deep – shallow, shallow, shallow.  Of course, is a track named “GOT DAMN” expected to be a highly intellectual trap joint? No, and it’s not.  Ultimately, “GOT DAMN” is an enjoyable listen.  The sound and smooth flow by Gunna are hypnotic.

11. Adam Lambert, “CVNTY”

AFTERS (EP) » More is More LLC » 2024

Adam Lambert, AFTERS (EP) [📷: More Is More LLC]“I’ll break your heart, and I’ll look cunty when I do it, oh.” Oh, snap 🫣🫢! ‘C U Next Tuesday’ has a strong case as the worst swear word of them all.  However, as Rolling Stone asserts in a 2023 article, the ‘c-word’ is ‘having a moment’. So, who is responsible for the reclamation of this foul word? The LGBTQ+ community 🏳️‍🌈! One of its most talented artists, Adam Lambert, contributes to the reclamation with “CVNTY”.  A brief but lit cut from his 2024 EP, AFTERS, Lambert penned “CVNTY” alongside Claudia Valentina, Nate Campany, Kyle Shearer, Kyle Tonoli, and Trevor Klaiman.  Valley Girl, Kyle Tonoli, and Trevor Klaiman produced it.  “CVNTY” sounds like a gay club. It is carefree and confident dance/synth-pop that serves C-V-N-T!

Lambert serves up a flirty, tuneful melody in the first verse. “I’ma be the one that you think about / When you get stuck in your head,” he sings, adding, “Tossing and turning in bed / Leave you with burning regret.” Ooh-wee! He’s playful in the second verse, singing agilely with easygoing, self-assure vocals: “Fuck, look at my face / Look at my body, my hand on my waist / Got anything that you wanted to say? Nah / But you can’t have me back.” His confidence reaches a fever pitch in the chorus and post-chorus:

“Sex so good that when we did it, flowers started bloomin’

Type of love that could’ve brought a city down to ruins

Sorry, baby, that you went and motherfuckin’ blew it

I’ll break your heart, and I’ll look cunty when I do it, oh.

Cunty while I, oh

I’ll break your heart, and I’ll look cunty when I do it, oh.”

The reclaimed c-word is highly effective in “CVNTY”.  Adam Lambert has the attitude and swagger to nail serving C U next Tuesday.

12. Sufjan Stevens, “Shit Talk”

Javelin » Asthmatic Kitty » 2023

Sufjan Stevens, Javelin [📷: Asthmatic Kitty]Once upon a time, Sufjan Stevens wouldn’t dare utter a swear word. Well, things have long since changed! “No more fighting / No more talking shit / Do as I say, not as I give up…” “Shit Talk” is the longest song of his 2023 album, Javelin. Running eight-and-a-half minutes, this penultimate record is a gem.  “Shit Talk” continues to showcase the artistry and musicianship of Stevens.  Metrically, “Shit Talk” embraces mixed meter, which is rarer in mainstream pop but something that Sufjan excels at. The record gets a lift from its percussion with the hard-hitting drums providing a truly formidable anchor ⚓️ 💪.  While Stevens is no powerhouse vocalist, surprisingly, at times, he’s a bit grittier and more overt vocally.  The vocal arrangement is angelic, celestial, and epic to the nth degree! “Shit Talk” is the shit thanks to its high-flying combo of vocals, lush instrumentation, the arrangement, and of course, the songwriting:

“Our romantic second chance is dead

I buried it with the hatchet

Quit your antics

Put them at the foot of the bed

And set it on fire

I will always love you

But I cannot look at you.”

13. Lil Ronny Motha F, “Throw Dat Ass in a Circle”

“Throw Dat Ass in a Circle” » Dirty Water Production, LLC » 2016

Lil Ronny, “Circle” [📷: Dirty Water Production, LLC]“Throw that ass in a circle / Throw that ass in a circle / Throw that ass in a circle…” Yeah, yeah, yeah – you get the point.  Lil Ronny Motha F keeps things unapologetic and sexed the f#¢k up on his 2016 single, “Circle”.  Depending on which version of this infectious yet utterly naughty rap track you partake, the extended version features  Mykfresh and Yung Nation.  Meanwhile, the shorter “Throw That Ass in A Circle” is all Lil Ronny. Either way, we’ll focus the majority of attention on the headlining rapper.  Backed by one of the nastiest beats and productions you’ll ever hear, “Circle” is readymade for the club – the strip club, that is! Beyond the repeated titular lyric, Lil Ronny expounds, encouraging her to “Toot it up girl, there you go,” continuing, “The way she shaking that ass / Got me hard like a shell on a turtle.” Da-yum Ronny!

“I like naked women and that’s the naked truth,” he commences his verse, adding, “With all these girls standing ‘round me naked, shit, I’m thinking ‘bout getting naked too.” Later, he spits, “Oh, you mad Bro? If this yo girl then why the fuck she saying hey to me?” Later, he adds some size to the mix: “My dick big and that’s safe to say but girl ion’ know if it’s safe to see / She on the pole doing tricks.” Wow… Ronny’s friends add more explicit sex references in their respective verses.  For Mykfresh, “She lick her lips and do ass tricks hit the splits and do ass tricks / She a bad bitch with ass and tits make the dick disappear like magic.” Whoa! B Reed (Yung Nation) drops some clever though filthy rhymes: “Charging hoes with the dick fee / She will feen for the cock no crack / You don’t think the 80’s was back / Now it’s time to fuck up her tracks / Lay that ass flat on the fuckin’ mat.” As for Lil Faime (also, of Yung Nation), “She eat my dick like Campbell Soup, yummy,” and “She rock my dick House of Blues.” “Circle” is a piece of work, to say the least.  As I listen to it, I take it with a grain of salt.  It’s freaky to the nth degree, that’s for sure.  Lil Ronny knows what he wants and how he wants it.
