13 Songs Straight From The Shower features music courtesy of Ashe, Becky G, Ice Nine Kills, Joesef, and Surface.
“Let’s take a shower, shower together / I’ll wash your body and you’ll wash mine, yeah.” Oh, how romantic, 🎙 Teddy Pendergrass! Though 🎵 “Turn Off The Lights” isn’t totally about the SHOWER, like the songs that comprise 🎧 13 Songs Straight From The Shower, it does reference some sexy shower action worth shouting out! The keyword is SHOWER with no exceptions! Musicians featured on this showery musical compendium include 🎙 Ashe, 🎙 Becky G, 🎙 Ice Nine Kills, 🎙 Joesef, and 🎙 Surface among others. So, without further ado, get into a shower mindset for 🎧 13 Songs Straight From The Shower!
1. Joesef, “Shower”
💿 Permanent Damage • 🏷 Bold Cut / AWAL • 📅 2023
“Both of us got in the shower / You said that that was our thing,” queer Scottish pop-soul singer 🎙 Joesef sings in the first verse of 🎵 “Shower”. Picture it: a scene between two lovers participating in quite a sexy, erotic experience 😈. “Sitting down, soaked for an hour / I’m underneath holding your weight,” he adds, before dropping the bomb on this highlight from his debut album, 💿 Permanent Damage: “Now I’m standing here alone.” Despite the great memory Joesef experiences of his ex- showering, the relationship is over. Furthermore, he is struggling with moving past it on this absolutely stunning ballad. In the chorus, he sings:
“I hope sometimes
When I close my eyes
And I open them that
You will be there
God knows I’ve tried
To leave you behind, but
I’m wondering
Did you ever really care?”
Those matters of the heart – they are incredibly pesky. Joesef is clearly in a bad spot, something he sheds more light about in the second verse, as well as the bridge. “I’ll try not to need you anymore,” he sings in the bridge, continuing, “But when you’re not here, the water’s cold.” Indeed. “Shower” is authentically and radiantly performed and written, backed by fitting musical accompaniment, produced by Joesef and 🎛 Barney Lister.
2. Ice Nine Kills, “The Shower Scene”
💿 The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood • 🏷 Fearless • 📅 2021
“Don’t mind mother, she is not well / The doctors say she’s not all there.” 🎙 Ice Nine Kills totally kick ass and take names when it comes to creating songs surrounding cinematic horror. 🎙 Spencer Charnas is the sugar honey iced tea – WOO! On their 2021 album, 💿 The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, Charnas and company drop a song, 🎵 “The Shower Scene”, based on the infamous shower murder scene from the 1960 🎬 Alfred Hitchcock film, 🎦 Psycho. This song specifically channels the fictional character Norman Bates, who has dissociative identity disorder. In the excerpted lyric, sung by Charnas from Bates’ perspective, he appears to characterize his mother as mentally unstable. Of course, ‘Mother’ ends up being one of Bates’ multiple personalities, and an abusive, murderous one at that (“She’s crazy, I must confess / I’m so sick of cleaning up her mess”)!
What makes “The Shower Scene” such a brilliant song is how the record navigates Norman Bates’ main personality and his dissociative ‘Mother’ personality. Charnas goes between both extremes, weaving in quotes from the film too. It is fitting when Charnas asserts, “You got caught up Inn between,” as the murderous shower scene in the book (📚 Robert Bloch) and film takes place at an inn. Also, it is fitting as Charnas asserts, “You can’t escape the shower scene!” It is two-fold because (1) it is one of the most famous cinematic scenes in history and (2) Bates murders Marion Crane, so, she’s not coming out alive. You can’t unsee this one, folks. The chorus is a dark, fierce vibe too as Charnas sings, “I hope saying goodnight / Doesn’t mean saying goodbye! / Now under pressure, we’re drowning together / Going down the drain tonight.” The drain is a key part of the shower scene in the film too. Besides a great narrative within the songwriting, and awesome lead vocals by Charnas, the music is lit too – dark, dramatic, dynamic, unsettling.

3. Ashe, “Shower With My Clothes On”
💿 Rae • 🏷 Mom+Pop • 📅 2022
“Wish that something made sense / Wish I wasn’t a mess,” 🎙 Ashe sings in the pre-chorus of 🎵 “Shower With My Clothes On.” The single appears as the fourth track on her 2022 sophomore album, 💿 Rae. She penned “Shower” alongside 🎼 ✍ Andrew Haas, Ian Franzino, and John Ryan. Ryan also produces this stunning gem alongside 🎛 AFTERHRS and Big Taste (Leroy Clampitt). Ashe goes on to sing emotionally in the chorus of the ballad, “I don’t know how to feel / I’m out of my mind / All the color’s out of my face /…I’ve been missing you for so long / Listening to our song / In the shower with my clothes on.” So, the reason why she’s showering with her clothes on is because of being in a state of depression and sheer lostness. The lyrics are reflective and honest. At one point, she asserts, “I keep feelin’ the world spin / I’ma fallen leaf in April in the Santa Ana winds / California’s a bitch.” Sigh, Cali always gets a bad rap, doesn’t it? What isn’t bad is “Shower With My Clothes On” where Ashe’s displeasure our listening pleasure, particularly her expressive, gifted pipes. A surefire vibe!

4. Zak James, “Sing In The Shower”
🎵 “Shower” • 🏷 Zak James • 📅 2017
“Wake up feeling like a billion dollars / Like I ain’t got no problems / That song we sing in the shower / And it’s like whoa, oh, we gone dance like nobody’s watching.” Woo! 🎙 Zak James flexes, delivering a surefire vibe on his groovy, 2017 single, 🎵 “Shower.” “Shower” is nothing short of a vibe, with its bright, groovy backdrop and cool, but potent confidence from James. Take a look at the single cover art and you can feel his energy and spirit, not to mention his dashing good looks (just saying 😍). Of course, we get some profanity in the mix, with no shortage of mf bombs during the verses. “Don’t want to stress about this about that / I’ve been chillin’ kickin’ back / Mothafucker I ain’t worried about a thing,” he asserts in the first verse, adding in the second, “I’ve been trying to be myself / Mothafucker, I’ve been doing my thing.” Word. What more is there to be said but #BIG MOOD!

5. Becky G, “Shower”
🎵 “Shower” • 🏷 Kemosabe • 📅 2014
“Ain’t no words to describe you, baby / All I know is that you take me high / Can you tell that you drive me crazy? / ‘Cause I can’t get you out my mind.” Woo! Boys, girls, men, and women everywhere, wave your hand in the air if you can relate to what 🎙 Becky G is singing! Beautiful strings commence the 2014 Becky G joint, 🎵 “Shower.” That lush, legato sound is short-lived, however, as soon enough, “Shower” flexes its musical muscles 💪, showing its ‘lit-ness’ with a banging beat 💯. The production arrives courtesy of 🎛 Dr. Luke and Cirkut – a formidable team to say the least. Becky G exhibits no shortage of personality as her lover has her so happy that she’s “dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower / La-da-dee, la-da-da, la-da-da.” The chorus is the centerpiece – the catchiest, most memorable moment of this happy, totally infatuated record. Love’ll make you do that though!

6. Jaheim, “Shower Scene”
💿 Appreciation Day • 🏷 Atlantic • 📅 2013
“Kiss you right there / I won’t wet your hair / Just let me wash your back, girl.” Woo! 🎙 Jaheim kicks off 🎵 “Shower Scene” in a steamy fashion. Even so, as erotic as the highlight is from his 2013 album, 💿 Appreciation Day is, Ja doesn’t get far-left explicit. Sure, by the end of the chorus, he mentions “Drippin’ with sweat, girl, we puts it down / Even in the shower now,” honestly, he could have done much worse. Despite singing about shower sex, the 🏆 Grammy-nominated R&B artist delivers a terrific performance: Nuanced, soulful, and sexy! “Gonna lather you up with soap / From your head to toes,” he continues in the pre-chorus, adding, “I’ll be rubbing your body down in oils.” Ooh-la-la! In addition to those sensual lyrics – often quick and rhythmic during the verses – the musical backdrop is lush, in the adult contemporary R&B/neo-soul style. Jaheim produced this record alongside 🎛 Charles Pettaway, and Sheldon Ellerby. Still, besides shower sex, the main attraction are the assertive, golden pipes of Jaheim – NO CAP!
7. Chance The Rapper, “Hot Shower” (Ft. MadeinTYO & DaBaby)
💿 The Big Day • 🏷 Chance The Rapper LLC • 📅 2019
“I got muscles like Superman’s trainer, ayy (Ooh) / Real real rare like Super Saiyan manga.” #FLEX 💪! 🎵 “Hot Shower” serves as a highlight from 💿 The Big Day, the polarizing debut album by 🏆 Grammy winner, 🎙 Chance The Rapper. Here, Chance The Rapper spits over a minimalist, banging beat, produced by himself and 🎛 Smoko Ono. He delivers an incredibly playful performance, much like the excerpted lyrics suggest. If nothing else, his energy is appreciated, particularly his emphasis on certain words, specifically ‘dude’: “Dude, I just called the plug, and his phone was unplugged / I was lookin’ at Doug like / Dude, that shit don’t even make no fucking sense.” 🎙 MadeinTYO and 🎙 DaBaby guest, with DaBaby earning the honors of best overall verse (before he showed he was a homophobic asshole). Even so, he does rap about controversies prior to his infamous HIV comments: “Goddamn / I think I got a new lawsuit, I need to come see you.”

8. Jane’s Addiction, “Standing in the Shower… Thinking”
💿 Nothing’s Shocking • 🏷 Warner • 📅 1988
“Standing in the shower thinking / About what makes a man / An outlaw or a leader / I’m thinking about power / … The water hits my neck / And I’m pissing myself…” Um, thought provoking! 🎵 “Standing in the Shower… Thinking” is amped-up from the onset – understatement! 🎙 Jane’s Addiction serves up a quick, totally in-your-face rock joint. The record appears on the collective’s 1988 album, 💿 Nothing’s Shocking, which happens to feature a kick-ass song about Ted Bundy, not to mention shocking (nude) cover art. “Standing in the Shower… Thinking” runs three minutes and change, which is more than enough time for 🎙 Perry Ferrell to compel with his assertive, distinct, punk-like vocals. This record is all about shower thoughts, period. Besides the tuneful, bold, and catchy lyrics, instrumentally, “Standing in the Shower… Thinking” gives. The drums are aggressive, the bass line is quite active, and those rhythmic guitar riffs are utterly sick! If you are familiar with Jane’s Addiction, this record is definitely on brand for them.
9. Fat Joe & Remy Ma, “Money Showers” (Ft. Ty Dolla $ign)
💿 Plata O Plomo • 🏷 RNG / EMPIRE / Plata O Plomo • 📅 2016
“Make ‘em understand / You know how this shit gon’ blow whenever I’m in town,” 🎙 Ty Dolla $ign sings in the chorus of 🎵 “Money Showers.” Ty Dolla $ign is a master at upping the ante on his guest features, which seem endless. Here, he assists 🏆 Grammy-nominated rappers 🎙 Fat Joe and 🎙 Remy Ma who joined forces on the 2016 collaborative album, 💿 Plata O Plomo. This money-driven joint features smooth production work (🎛 Cool N Dre), which is amplified by the use of sampling. Again, Ty Dolla $ign, delivers the goods on the tuneful chorus. Fat Joe performs the first verse, impressing with his flow and being unapologetic (“No lie, see everything Gucci, we steady mobbing / Who else could turn a stripper into Tonya Harding?”). Of course, Remy Ma keeps the same energy in the second verse (“So if he fuck around and I don’t happen to cum / Nigga, you can be my ex, that’s where I’m from”). All told, this is a terrific, incredibly memorable moment from Plata O Plomo.
10. LMFAO, “Champagne Showers” (Ft. Natalia Kills)
💿 Sorry for Party Rocking • 🏷 Interscope • 🗓 2011
🎙 LMFAO had some hits – back in the year of our lord, 2011, that is. 🎵 “Champagne Showers” is one of those hits. “Champagne Showers” benefits from its driving dance groove. The production overall is exceptional – slick and colorful by all means. From a vocal perspective, featured guest 🎙 Natalia Kills has some interesting vocal effects and auto-tune going on. It fits the electro-pop backdrop and vibe cultivated by the duo. Her key lyric is the pre-chorus/pre-hook where she asserts, “We’re gonna get you wet/ We’re gonna make you sweat / A night you won’t forget/ Are you ready for…” She definitely sets up the the crowning achievement – the chorus!
“Champagne Showers
Champagne showers
Pop it in the club
We light it up every hour
I said
Champagne Showers
Champagne Showers
We pop, pop, pop it in the club
We light it up every hour, every hour…”
Is this song utterly ridiculous? Of course, it is! Let’s not forget, the group’s name is LMFAO after all!

11. Lindemann, “Golden Shower”
💿 Skills in Pills • 🏷 Lindemann / Warner Music Group • 📅 2015
“Please stand up and spread your legs / I lay me down, look up, it shakes.” Wow – just wow. Definitely NSFW! 🎙 Lindemann – vocalist 🎙 Till Lindemann of 🎙 Rammstein and multi-instrumentalist 🎙 Peter Tägtgren of 🎙 Hypocrisy and PAIN – is unapologetic to the nth degree on 🎵 “Golden Shower” from their 2015 album, 💿 Skills in Pills. Obviously, when a song is named golden shower, it references a sex act involving urine. Of course, Lindemann relays the experience through song. It is on brand to be honest. Remember, Rammstein is known to be controversial and outlandish – 🎵 “Bück dich” and 🎵 “Mein Teil” come to mind. He continues singing, unapologetically in the first verse, “Let me eat your shame / Let me sip champagne / Let cry your pinky flower / Give me, give me golden shower.” Da-yum!
Lindemann’s lyrics keep it X-rated with several references to her C U Next Tuesday… yikes! Of course, in the second verse, he asserts, “Please stand up, pink hairy sky,” as well as “Be my human Eiffel tower.” Yeah – use your imagination. Besides the wild lyrics, Tägtgren composes the music, as well as produces, which gives this unrefined record some class – well – maybe that’s not quite the right characterization. “Make it wet, let it jet / Cu—” Woo!

12. Surface, “Shower Me With Your Love”
💿 2nd Wave • 🏷 Sony Music Entertainment • 📅 1988
“My heart is filled with so much love / And I need someone I can call my own.” Oh, the nostalgia, 🎙 Surface. Perhaps not the first 1980s-90s music collective that comes to mind, the R&B trio – 🎙 Bernard Jackson, 🎙 David Conley, and 🎙 David Townsend – had a successful run. That run included the top-five, Billboard Hot 100 hit, 🎵 “Shower Me With Your Love”. “Shower Me With Your Love” graces their platinum-certified, 1988 album, 💿 2nd Wave. Clearly, matters of the heart shape this classic ballad that sounds idiomatic of the late 80s, yet remains potent in the 2020s.
Love is the superpower on this record. Bernard Jackson asserts, “Life is too short to live alone / Without Someone to call my own / I will care for you, you will care for me / Our love will live forever.” Ah – sounds utterly perfect. Perhaps love isn’t that easy, but in the hands of Surface, it sure sounds that way. Keeping things simple and hopeful, Jackson “Pray(s) all my wishes come true” and believes that “Fairy tales, they do sometimes come true / If you believe, it could happen to you.” Well, as they say, if you want something, you’ve got to speak it into existence. Honestly, listening to how sincere Surface sounds on the gorgeous 🎵 “Shower Me With Your Love”, the hope is that they are indeed showered in love (“Shower me with your love / Shower me with the love that I long for”). A super sweet R&B record, period.

13. James Taylor, “Shower the People”
💿 In The Pocket • 🏷 Warner • 📅 1976
“You can play the game and you can act out the part / Though you know it wasn’t written for you.” Hmm, now that is prudent and thought provoking, 🎙 James Taylor! Taylor has showered us with hits throughout his career including his gem, 🎵 “Shower the People.” “Shower the People” appears on Taylor’s 1976 album, 💿 In The Pocket. The song earned success on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at a respectable no. 22.
So, what makes “Shower the People” so awesome? If you are a James Taylor fan, you’ll appreciate the chill, mellow sound – it’s typical James Taylor. I love the warm timbre of the guitars and electric keys. Furthermore, James sings beautifully, never getting too high (this man never breaks a sweat). The chorus, specifically, is absolutely delightful with the warm vocal harmonies. Furthermore, it marks the most tuneful section of the record:
“Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way that you feel
Things are gonna work out fine if you only will…”
You know what – James has a point! “Shower the People” also benefits from a nice harmonic progression, which is most notable during the chorus section. Of course, the crème de la crème is the thoughtful lyricism and songwriting. This, of course, is the expectation with a singer/songwriter as talented as Mr. Taylor is. “Better to shower the people you love with love / Yes and show them the way that you feel / I know things are gonna be just fine if you only will…”
