13 More Songs Filled with Considerable Love
features Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Mitski, Summer Walker & The Weeknd.
L
ove is always a great theme for a playlist β itβs universal. Back in December 2021, The Musical Hype ran with this broad, relatable topic on 13 More Songs Filled with Considerable Love
features songs from
Justin Bieber (2x),
Mary J. Blige (also, 2x),
Mitski,
Summer Walker, and
The Weeknd among others. Stylistically, the compendium encompasses alternative, pop, and R&B. So, without further ado, letβs embrace this love-centric sequel!
1. Mary J. Blige, βFailing in Loveβ
Good Morning Gorgeous β’ Mary Jane Productions Inc. / 300 Entertainment β’
2022
βSo close to givinβ up / When you stay, youβre fuckinβ up.β Da-yum! Love plagues the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,
Mary J. Blige, throughout her 14th (or 15th, depending on how you count) album,
Good Morning Gorgeous. Among the truly elite moments β the crΓ¨me de la crΓ¨me β is
βFailing in Love.β I see what you did there, MJB! Of course, how could love work out considering that βFrom a boy to a man, still never grew up.β Thatβs a problem!
Producer extraordinaire
London on da Track and
Slimwav set up Blige for surefire success, NO CAP. Here, MJB wants to find success in the love department but continues failing time and time again. βNot gettinβ any rest,β she asserts in the second verse, continuing, ββCause this love has been a headache /β¦ It used to be fun /β¦. Now itβs just aa mess.β Her pain, of course, is our listening pleasure on this incredibly relatable number. In the pre-chorus, she admits to being βinβ and βout,β including the urge to commit arson: βOoh, Iβm passinβ your house / Got me wantinβ to burn it to the ground.β Mercy!
2. The Weeknd, βHow Do I Make You Love Me?β
Dawn FM β’
Republic β’
2022
βIβll fix you mushroom tea / And cross the restless sea.β Mushroom tea, huh? Sounds like
The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) is serving up drugs on
βHow Do I Make You Love Me?β βHow Do I Make You Love Me?β is one of many gems from the
Grammy winnerβs 2022 album,
Dawn FM. Of course, the ultra-slickly-produced (Tesfaye,
Oscar Holter,
Matt Cohn,
Swedish House Mafia,
Max Martin and
Oneohtrix Point Never), synthpop gem isnβt about psychedelic mushrooms but rather about winning her affection.
According to Tesfaye, heβs willing to βteach you how to shine.β Woo! He later adds, βLight you up again / Like embers of a fire.β Like
βGasolineβ that precedes it, the Canadian R&B/pop superstar is on autopilot. One of the coolest aspects of βHow Do I Make You Love Me?β is how the groove segues into one of the albumβs best songs,
βTake My Breathβ. Of course, we should highlight that infectious chorus too!
βHow do I make you love me?
How do I make you fall for me?
How do I make you want me
And make it last eternally?β
3. Adele, βMy Little Loveβ
30 β’
Melted Stone / Columbia β’
2021
βIβm holdinβ on (Barely) / Mamaβs got a lot to learn (Itβs heavy).β In the context of
30, the fourth studio album by
Academy/Grammy award winner
Adele,
βMy Little Loveβ has a tall task: following up βEasy on Meβ. Despite this tough draw, βMy Little Loveβ ends up being awesome itself. As she does throughout 30, Adele allows herself to be vulnerable, sharing her vulnerabilities with her son, Angelo, and musically, with the world.
βI wanted you to have everything I never had,β she sings to Angelo in the third verse. She continues, βIβm so sorry if what Iβve done makes you feel sad.β Essentially, she asserts, βMamaβs got a lot to learn,β regarding being the best mother and as a person whoβs imperfect like everyone else. One of the coolest features of this βMy Little Loveβ are the conversations incorporated with her son. βTell me you love me,β Adele says to Angelo, who responds, βI love you a million percent.β How sweet! βMy Little Loveβ is worth every second of itβs six-and-a-half-minute duration.
4. Justin Bieber, βLove You Differentβ (Ft. BEAM)
Justice β’
Def Jam β’
2021
βI will love you different / Just the way you are / And I will love you different.β Fair enough,
Justin Bieber. Following his chill, no. 1 hit
βPeachesβ from his 2021,
Grammy-nominated album,
Justice, the
Grammy winner has plans to
βLove You Different.β Why? Well, apparently, sheβs the one. βWhen we touch,β he gushes on the first verse, βI think we skip a beat (Beep, beep, beep).β
Something that is specifically different about βLove You Differentβ is the sound, which embraces sleek, tropical pop. In fact, itβs one of a couple of records from Justice that integrate some international flavor. Confirming the topical, Jamaican tinged sound is a guest appearance by
BEAM, who guests on the third verse (βA real ting we feel this time / You gimme goosebumps, yeah, yeahβ). The record is catchy, even if it doesnβt quite reach the top echelon of Justice.

5. Summer Walker, βNo Loveβ (Ft. SZA)
Still Over It β’
LRVN / Interscope β’
2021
βBut if I had you back, all I wanna do is fuck / Get drunk, take drugsβ¦β Um, okay
Summer Walker β you do you boo! In the chorus of her
Still Over It standout,
βNo Love,β the R&B standout adds, βAll lust, there will be no lovinβ you.β So, basically, Summer doesnβt want to get in her feelings, getting emotionally attached β she just wants to have fun.
Walker is joined by
Grammy-nominated R&B artist,
SZA, who provides her own rationale for βNo Love.β βIf I did it all again / I would give, like ten percent,β she sings, continuing, βYou deserve, like, half of that / Iβma need my money back.β Damn, he mustβve really did her wrong! Of course, like her βsista in crime,β itβs about pleasure without attachment: βGive me what I want, I donβt need it / Just CC me, just VV me, just that dick when I call / No more feelings involved, I done seen all I need to.β Summer ends up dropping a third verse, where sheβs clearly β wait for it β STILL OVER IT! βFunny now that you callinβ, that you ringinβ my line /β¦ Tell me whatβs changed, is it my status? Is it my fame/ Is it my pockets? Is it my change?β βNo Loveβ is a must hear, especially with that smooth production work by
FORTHENIGHT &
Sonni (BR).
6. Lewis Capaldi, βSomeone You Lovedβ
Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent β’
Universal Music β’
2019
βSomeone You Loved,β from the 2019 album,
Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, is indisputably
Lewis Capaldiβs mainstream breakthrough. The former number one is a gorgeous, piano ballad that places emphasis on the Scottish singerβs prodigious vocals. Perhaps this review sounds like a broken record, but Capaldi possesses a βonce in a generationβ voice that has a hypnotic, mesmerizing quality. Additionally, βSomeone You Lovedβ is simply a well-written song.
βIβm going under, and this time, I fear thereβs no one to save me,β he sings in the first verse. He later adds, βI need somebody to heal, somebody to know / Somebody to have, somebody, to hold.β As compelling as the verse lyrics are, the chorus marks the most memorable and elite moment of this
Grammy-nominated gem.
βNow, the day bleeds into nightfall
And youβre not here to get me through it all
I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.β
7. Mitski, βLove Me Moreβ
Laurel Hell β’
Dead Oceans β’
2022
βIf I keep myself at home / I wonβt make the same mistake / That I made for fifteen years.β Hmm, intriguing
Mitksi (Mitski Miyawaki). On
βLove Me More,β a highlight from her 2022 album,
Laurel Hell, the singer/songwriter goes deep. Furthermore, sheβs vulnerable, referencing her problems, loneliness, monotony, and of course, the need for L-O-V-E.
Analyzing βLove Me Moreβ effectively might take a while. Why? Well, so many of the lyrical passages carry tremendous weight or require more context. That, of course, speaks of the brilliance of the songwriting (Miyawaki is a beast). One extremely compelling lyric: βBut when Iβm done singing this song / I will have to find something else / To do to keep me here.β Deep, deep, deep! Generally, βLove Me Moreβ highlights the importance of love (however youβd like to interpret it) and how it makes you feel better and stronger. Thereβs no better example of the significance of love on Mitski than the chorus:
βI need you to love me more
Love me more, love me more
Love enough to fill me up
Fill me up, fill me up
β¦ Love enough to drown it out
Drown it out, drown me out.β
What does Miyawaki want to drown out? Her problems, of course.
8. Anthony Hamilton, βReal Loveβ (Ft. Rick Ross)
Love is the New Black β’
My Music Box / BMG Rights Management β’
2021
βReal love, the kind you dream of / Comes once in your life.β Woo! After an excruciating five-year wait,
Grammy-winning, contemporary soul singer/songwriter
Anthony Hamilton released a brand-new studio album,
Love is the New Black. One song Iβve had on repeat from the 2021 LP is
βReal Loveβ featuring
Rick Ross. βReal Loveβ provides a brilliant balance between old- and new school. Neo-soul is firmly in play, amplified by interpolation of
βSwahililandβ (
Ahmad Jamal). Those syncopated, jazzy chords are nothing short of awesome. Besides the kick-ass jazz sample, the beat provides a more contemporary anchor, while also recalling the hip-hop soul of the 90s.
βReal love, the kind worth heaven
Youβve gotta hold tight
Real love, real love, real love, real love
Real love.β
Phew, Anthony Hamilton, thatβs a lot of βreal loveβ right there! As always, Hamilton is locked in, blessing the soulful, love-oriented track with his anointed, distinct pipes. In the first verse, he speaks about a special love, one that doesnβt appear to be βromanticβ: βAnd I was a child in your arms of love / And I just wanted to make you proud.β As for Ross, he excels at a soulful, old-school beat, but opts for a romantic brand of love, sex, and of course, touts his drip. Thereβs no gray area when βThe Bawseβ asserts: βBaby girl, Iβma kill somethinβ / Let me eat you out and Iβma kill somethinβ.β WOO! βReal Love,β produced by
9th Wonder, is βreallyβ good, NO CAP!

9. Eric Nam, βOne Way Loverβ
There and Back Again β’
The Eric Nam Company β’
2022
Eric Nam is a fantastic singer, marvelously showcasing his vocal gifts on the short but sweet album,
There and Back Again. The Korean American standout shines from start to finish, serving up a relatively low-key, crooning style of K-pop encompassing pop and R&B. He may never break a sweat, but the temperature rises nonetheless throughout There and Back Again! The project concludes on a high note with
βOne Way Loverβ.
Those expecting the one βexplicitβ song from There and Back Again to be βdirtyβ will likely be disappointed. Nam utters one swear word in the second verse when he easily sings, βIβm okay with the way / That youβre handling your shit.β Yup, thatβs all we get, and he slides it in like itβs nothing. Thematically, anybody whoβs experienced with love should be able to relate to the heartbreak and conflicted feelings Nam experiences. The chorus is the centerpiece, made even better by the tasteful, colorful synths of producer,
Rabitt.
βHow you living?
Bet itβs not so different
Donβt you ever wanna miss me at all?
Youβre a one-way lover
Now it makes me wonder
Why Iβd ever wanna miss you at all.β
10. Teddy Swims, βLove for a Minuteβ
Tough Love β’
SWIMS Int. / Warner β’
2022
βYou told me, I was crazy / Your stories, kept on changing / I hate that Iβm still hanginβ on to you.β Not all musicians start out the same way. Atlanta, Georgia singer/songwriter
Teddy Swims (Jaten Dimsdale) got his start via YouTube. Eventually, this βchameleon soulβ ended up with a record deal which is rad to say the least. In 2022, Swims released a new EP,
Tough Love, featuring
βLove for a Minute.β
In βLove for a Minute,β the love hasnβt worked out for Teddy. Weβve all been there, of course. βWouldβve never thought you could be so toxic,β he sings in the pre-chorus, adding, βGo, my darling, oh my darling.β Swims goes on to sing in the chorus, βI felt like love for a minute / Then you fucked up yeah, you did it / Iβll never fool myself again.β Ultimately, Swims sings beautifully and expressively on βLove for a Minute,β serving up a mix of full-bodied vocals and ripe falsetto. We clearly feel the pain of the plight of L-O-V-E, thatβs for sure!

11. Keyshia Cole, βLoveβ
The Way It Is β’
A&M β’
2005
In 2005, the world was introduced to
Keyshia Cole, a fabulous R&B singer, often compared to
Mary J. Blige. Sure, Coleβs voice is incredible, but like Blige, she also has a compelling backstory. Her debut album,
The Way It Is, has no shortage of hits. Among the best hits is her moving, love-centric ballad, simply titled,
βLove.β
βI used to think that I wasnβt fine enough / And I used to think that I wasnβt wild enough,β Cole sings expressively and vulnerably. She continues, singing in the first verse, βBut I wonβt waste my time tryinβ to figure out / Why you playinβ games β whatβs this all about?β Basically, on this lushly produced number, Cole is heartbroken as her man is leaving/has already left her for someone else. Sheβs devastated in love because she felt sheβd found the real deal, best evidenced by the melisma-filled chorus:
βLove, never knew what I was missinβ
But I knew once we start kissinβ, I found
Love, never knew what I was missinβ
But I knew once we start kissinβ I found, I found you.β
Oh, the plight of love!
12. Justin Bieber, βLove Yourselfβ
Purpose β’
Def Jam β’
2015
βFor all the times that you rained on my parade,β
Grammy winner
Justin Bieber sings on
βLove Yourself,β adding, βYou think you broke my heart, oh girl for goodness sake / You think Iβm cryinβ on my own, well, I ainβt.β βLove Yourselfβ certainly marked a more mature vibe for Bieber on his 2015 album,
Purpose. βLove Yourselfβ deserves some credit for the singer/songwriter vibe, which at the time, was a different sound for the pop star. Notably, it was nominated for two Grammy awards: Song of the Year and Pop Solo Performance.
βLove Yourselfβ was written by Bieber,
Benny Blanco, and
Ed Sheeran. βLove Yourselfβ features a simple but fitting backdrop, with Blanco handling the
production duties. Thematically, this βLove Yourselfβ is both empowering and yet from another angle, not-so empowering β choose your own perspective on self-love. On one hand, Bieber knows heβs better off without this self-centered girl, hence, why he leaves her and encourages her to βlove herself.β βCause if you like the way you look so much / Oh baby you should go love yourself,β he asserts on the chorus, continuing, βAnd if you think that Iβm still holdinβ on to somethinβ / You should go and love yourself.β
Appears in :
13. Mary J. Blige, βLove Without the Heartbreakβ
Good Morning Gorgeous β’ Mary Jane Productions Inc. / 300 Entertainment β’
2022
Question: is it possible to have
βLove Without the Heartbreakβ? Not sure, but thatβs what
Mary J. Blige seeks on the 10th track from her 2022 album,
Good Morning Gorgeous. After a five-year hiatus, The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul returned strong. If youβve been keeping up, youβll notice βLove Without the Heartbreakβ marks the second entry from GMG. We couldβve included most of the album, of course!
In the context of Good Morning Gorgeous, βLove Without the Heartbreakβ marks a second
Anderson .Paak production (with
RogΓ©t Chahayed). The record is classy, refined grown folks R&B at its best. That said, from Maryβs end, sheβs not fucking around; she keeps it uncensored and unfiltered. βIf I could pick the best parts of love, I can do without this,β she asserts in the first verse, continuing, βI would take out all the bullshit / I would take out the part about your ex-bitch.β Woo! Truly, MJB is, indeed, βso goddamn sick of the painβ β love pain of course!
