Did you ever know that you need a playlist associated with the bathroom? Probably not but hey, that’s what The Musical Hype is giving you with 🎧 11 Songs Loosely Associated with the Bathroom! Just a week prior to this 11-song musical compendium, we provided a preview via the miniature playlist, 🎧 Bathroom: 3 to 5 BOPS No. 64 (2023). Honestly, there was never a plan to expand beyond five bathroom-related songs but then it just sort of happened quickly. So, the result is this shitty 💩 (🤭) list of songs! 🎧 11 Songs Loosely Associated with the Bathroom features music courtesy of 🎙 Anthony Sprunk, 🎙 Ice Nine Kills, 🎙 Montell Fish, 🎙 SpaceMan Zack, and 🎙 Trippie Redd among others. So, get ready to explore the bathroom with us in all its glorious stench, I guess 😂 🤣 😂 🤣

 1. Trippie Redd & Ski Mask the Slump God, “TOILET WATER”

💿 MANSION MUSIK 🏷 1400 Entertainment, Inc. / 10K Projects • 📅 2023

Trippie Redd, Mansion Musik [📷: 1400 Entertainment, Inc. / 10K Projects]“I’m from the jungle, a lion, lil bitch / I been stuntin’ since I was a kitty.” Um, meow, 🎙 Trippie Redd.  The always colorful, idiosyncratic rapper brings the bathroom, specifically the toilet, into the fold on the banger, 🎵 “TOILET WATER” (“Treat ‘em like turds, don’t say a word / These niggas is all shitty 💩”). “TOILET WATER” appears deep into his 2023 album, 💿 MANSION MUSIK as the 19th track.  He’s assisted by 🎙 Ski Mask the Slump God on this unapologetic, 🎛 Bosley/ Igor Mamet/ Bacon and Popcorn / HNRZHUNTER production.

All those lyrical excerpts hail from the chorus, which features plenty of memorable lyrics.  Of course, the most fun part of the shit-fueled experience is when Trippie and Ski Mask spit, “Flush (bust), flush (bust).” The flushing also occurs in the pre-chorus too for good measure! Anyways, Trippie takes the first verse, which is violent with its references to MAC-11s and FN’s, and Redd’s assertion, “Bitch, you know I keep a cutter.” As for Ski Mask the Slump God, he comes through in the second verse with epic lines like “Break him like a Kit-Kat, Chris, how I be tuckin’” and the likes of “You be built like a nose, you be runny / Money flow like constipated tummy.” While 🎵 “TOILET WATER” is literally pissy and shitty (sorry, couldn’t resist), this three-minute banger is irresistible.

2. SpaceMan Zack, “Coke in the Bathroom”

🎵 “Coke in the Bathroom” • 🏷 SpaceMan Zack • 📅 2019

SpaceMan Zack, Coke in the Bathroom [📷: SpaceMan Zack]Perhaps 📺 Bob’s Burgers says it best: 🎵 “Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom”. In the case of Dallas artist 🎙 SpaceMan Zack, that ‘bad stuff’ is “Cocaine in the bathroom.” Clearly, Zack is NOT talking about Coca Cola on his 2019 banger, 🎵 “Coke in the Bathroom” (well, see the music video 🎶📼…). In the chorus, he raps, “Cocaine in the bathroom, I get a line / I’m in the backroom wasting my time / She like my tattoos, she tell me lies / Fuck me like that girl, then take my life.” Charming… 🎛 OffKey helps to fuel Zack’s fire with kick-a$$ production.

After the colorful chorus, there is only one verse, and SpaceMan Zack keeps things brutally honest. Love seems to be out of the cards for him (maybe), but “I’mma die rich in a room full of money.” Even though he says “Baby, ain’t nobody wanna love me,” that doesn’t mean Zack doesn’t plan to ‘get some’ as twice he mentions “Black dress shawty in the back fucking on me.”  Furthermore, he goes on to say, “It’s that lover boy shit till they putting me under”… Um, okay… sure… Also covered in the sole verse is Zack’s drip (“Baby said she love to read the LV on my buckle”) and his ability to secure the plug for the coke, apparently 😏.  Depth is not part of the modus operandi of 🎵 “Coke in the Bathroom” and perhaps it’s best that way.  A little outlandishness never hurt anybody, right? Well now…

3. HOLYCHILD, “Bathroom Bitch”

🎵 “Bathroom Bitch” • 🏷 Glassnote Entertainment Group LLC • 🗓 2018

HOLYCHILD, “Bathroom Bitch”: [📷: Glassnote Entertainment Group LLC]“I wanna fuck you in the bathroom / I wanna fuck you on the roof of my car / I wanna drink your juice so badly / I want it dripping from my ass to the floor.” Wow – holy fuck! 🎙 Liz Nistico doesn’t hold back anything on 🎵 “Bathroom Bitch”, which is clearly a sexual record.  The first verse is X-rated, and the second and third don’t tame things down either.  “Can I go down on you in public,” Nistico asks in the second verse, adding in the third, “C’mon and fuck me like you doubt me / I wanna be the only one you won’t forget.” Woo! Nistico (songwriting and vocals), alongside producer/instrumentalist 🎙 Louie Diller were previously part of the alternative/indie pop duo, 🎙 HOLYCHILD.  They have since moved on from HOLYCHILD, but “Bathroom Bitch” is unforgettable, to say the least.

“Baby, I’m an animal but you can have a taste

God, I feel so powerful when grinding on your face…”

My, my, my! Beyond the pre-chorus with its animalistic tendencies, the chorus encourages the sweet pleasures of sex.  Interestingly, it does so without f-bombs explicitly expressing what’s going down.  No worries, because the bridge gets down and dirty once more: “In the bathroom, in the library / I feel your love inside of me.” Inside, huh? #SPEECHLESS! The sex is lit on 🎵 “Bathroom Bitch” – that might be an understatement.  This is a dirty but fun and utterly infectious indie pop joint.  Liz Nistico is bold AF, and she’s unafraid to express her sexual desires.

4. Montell Fish, “Bathroom”

💿 Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost 🏷 Lord’s Child • 🗓 2022

Montell Fish, Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost [📷: Lord’s Child]“She said, ‘Forget all the slow dancing / Baby, we could take it to the bathroom’.” Woo! Obviously, neither 🎙 Montell Fish or his prospective lady need to do ‘number one’ or ‘number two’ in the bathroom 😏.  Obviously, the plan on 🎵 “Bathroom” from his 2022 project, 💿 Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost involve a heaping dose of S meets E, and then they X. The chorus, which appears at the top of the track, continues, “‘You know you ain’t even gotta ask me / Baby, we could take it to the bathroom.” Yup, it’s going down – Meet me at the bathroom, IT’S GOIN’ DOWN 😈!!!

Here’s the thing though, Montell Fish keeps it classy – well as classy as a bathroom rendezvous can be – on “Bathroom.” Perhaps they’re merely making out in the bathroom, but, we can read between the lines.  “She moves with my palm / She always gives it to me / I’m fallin’ in love / This is addictive, please.” At least to his credit, in the sole verse of his slow jam, Fish admits to falling in love as opposed to just a one-bathroom-stand! More could be said about the lyrics, but honestly, that’s about the size of it on 🎵 “Bathroom”. Clearly, this couple doesn’t care about slow dancing and requires some private, sexy time via the bathroom. It’s a sexy V-I-B-E to say the least!

5. Ice Nine Kills, “The Shower Scene”

💿 The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood 🏷 Fearless • 📅 2021

Ice Nine Kills, Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2 [📷: Fearless]“Don’t mind mother, she is not well / The doctors say she’s not all there.” 🎙 Ice Nine Kills totally kick ass and take names when it comes to creating songs surrounding cinematic horror.  🎙 Spencer Charnas is the sugar honey iced tea – WOO! On their 2021 album, 💿 The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, Charnas and company drop a song, 🎵 “The Shower Scene”, based on the infamous shower murder scene from the 1960 🎬 Alfred Hitchcock film, 🎦 Psycho. This song specifically channels the fictional character Norman Bates, who has dissociative identity disorder. In the excerpted lyric, sung by Charnas from Bates’ perspective, he appears to characterize his mother as mentally unstable.  Of course, ‘Mother’ ends up being one of Bates’ multiple personalities, and an abusive, murderous one at that (“She’s crazy, I must confess / I’m so sick of cleaning up her mess”)!

What makes “The Shower Scene” such a brilliant song is how the record navigates Norman Bates’ main personality and his dissociative ‘Mother’ personality.  Charnas goes between both extremes, weaving in quotes from the film too.  It is fitting when Charnas asserts, “You got caught up Inn between,” as the murderous shower scene in the book (📚 Robert Bloch) and film takes place at an inn.  Also, it is fitting as Charnas asserts, “You can’t escape the shower scene!” It is two-fold because (1) it is one of the most famous cinematic scenes in history and (2) Bates murders Marion Crane, so, she’s not coming out alive.  You can’t unsee this one, folks.  The chorus is a dark, fierce vibe too as Charnas sings, “I hope saying goodnight / Doesn’t mean saying goodbye! / Now under pressure, we’re drowning together / Going down the drain tonight.” The drain is a key part of the shower scene in the film too. Besides a great narrative within the songwriting, and awesome lead vocals by Charnas, the music is lit too – dark, dramatic, dynamic, unsettling.

6. Anthony Sprunk, “I’ll Meet You in the Bathroom”

🎵 “I’ll Meet You In The Bathroom” • 🏷 Anthony Sprunk • 🗓 2022

Anthony Sprunk, I’ll Meet You in the Bathroom [📷: Anthony Sprunk]“But I’ll meet you in the bathroom / You go first ‘cause you know how / People love to assume…”  Hmm 🤔, wonder what happens when two guys meet in a bathroom? Well, unless you are incredibly naïve and live under a rock, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what 🎙 Anthony Sprunk and this particular guy intend to do on 🎵 “I’ll Meet You in the Bathroom”.  Clearly, an act of pleasure is going down 😈 🍆 💦, one of which Sprunk goes on to sing, “If the next five minutes / Is the only five minutes / It was worth every minute.”  Basically, experiencing pleasure, even if it is short-lived and essentially, empty and meaningless, is better than nothing. A lot of gay men might say the same, to be honest. BUT there is something more transcendent…

Interestingly, if you dig deeper into the lyrics of “I’ll Meet You In The Bathroom,” sex isn’t the sole takeaway.  Sure, Anthony and this guy are going to enjoy each other’s company temporarily, but there appears to be a level of fear.  The fear of judgment and shame.  Those are two things experienced by so many members of the LGBTQ+ community, regardless of the letter that best represents them.  Notably, Sprunk asserts, “I just wanna go out and not worry about / Stupid people with stupid faces and their opinions.” Basically, he wants to live his truth without being judged.  Later, both guys mention the shame: “He said his family would be ashamed / I said, ‘Mine would feel the same’ / But God knows that I tried / Turned ocean tears to tides / And nothing changed.” Woo! So much to unpack from a mere trip to the bathroom! By the end, it’s clear that nothing of substance comes of the hookup as Sprunk has more questions than answers: “Did you make it out of Tucson? / Did you get your law degree? / Did you make it to Chicago? / I guess some things I’ll never know.” All told, 🎵 “I’ll Meet You in the Bathroom” is truly special, superbly capturing the gay 🌈 experience.

7. French Montana, “Hotel Bathroom”

💿 Jungle Rules 🏷 Bad Boy Entertainment / Epic • 📅 2017

French Montana, Jungle Rules [📷: Epic]“Motel 6 / We fucked in the bathroom, Motel 6 / Don’t tell this / But you ain’t no motel bitch…” Um, good to know… Not all bathroom songs were made equal, unfortunately. Cutting straight to the chase, 🎙 French Montana offers minimal substance on 🎵 “Hotel Bathroom,” which appears on his 2017 album, 💿 Jungle Rules. “Hotel Bathroom” is shallow by all means. The chorus confirms such:

“Hotel bathroom

Hotel bathroom

Smoking in the bathroom

To the hotel room

Hotel couch, fucking on the hotel couch

Hotel bathroom

Fuck you on the hotel bath tub.”

So, unpacking that, it’s some smoking and mostly fucking… Yup, basically. To French’s credit, the production (🎛 A1, ISM, and Frank Dukes), sound, and overall vibe are pros. Still, does “Hotel Bathroom” make sex sound, well sexy? Nope, but to each his or her own.

8. Highly Suspect, “Bath Salts”

💿 Mister Asylum 🏷 300 Entertainment • 📅 2015

Highly Suspect, Mister Asylum [📷: 300 Entertainment]🎵 “Bath Salts” appears as the fourth track off of 💿 Mister Asylum, the debut album by 🏆 Grammy-nominated rock band, 🎙 Highly Suspect.  The front man of Highly Suspect is none other than 🎙 Johnny Stevens who definitely fits the role of rock star perfectly: tatted up, unapologetic, and sexy, in a bad boy sort of way.  More importantly than his looks is his voice, which is definitely powerful and chocked-full of spirit. Obviously, with a song entitled “Bath Salts,” the connotation is expectedly negative…  This joint is about dangerous synthetic cathinones – mind-altering drugs! So, clearly, Stevens is not clean (contextually) asserting on the first verse, “‘Cause lately I’ve been feeling so strange / Like I’ve been re-arranged, changed / and these voices /… These fellas are tell me that I’d be better off dead.” Yikes! He goes on to share the effects of the drugs on the second verse, asking on the bridge, “Hey / Why can’t I come down,” before expressing, “I feel like death is coming soon and, oh / All I wanna do is fucking sleep.” Wow.  Finally, he shares what went down during his overdose.  Even though this is merely a song, Stevens did, indeed, experience an overdose.

9. Miranda Lambert, “Bathroom Sink”

💿 Platinum🏷 RCA Nashville • 📅 2014

Miranda Lambert, Platinum [📷 RCA Records Label Nashville]“She taught me how to pray and drink / And how to clean the bathroom sink.”  That she being mom – 🎙 Miranda Lambert’s mama. On 🎵 “Bathroom Sink,” the seventh track from 💿 Platinum (2014), 🏆 Grammy-winner 🎙 Miranda Lambert sings of “Fake smile and eyelashes,” later following it up with “Glamour at its finest / Just means someone’s hidin’ / from their own reality.” Woo, that’s a mic drop moment right there! Lambert ties the message together in the chorus, singing, “It’s amazing, the amount of rejections / That I see in my reflection,” adding, “I’m lookin’ forward to the girl I wanna be / But regret has got a way of staring me right in the face.”  Ultimately, the bathroom sink isn’t nearly as important as Miranda’s message regarding becoming a real, genuine person beyond the makeup. “Bathroom Sink”  was written solely by Lambert 💪.

10. N.E.R.D, “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)”

💿 Seeing Sounds 🏷 Star Trak, LLC 📅 2008

N.E.R.D, Seeing Sounds [📷: Star Trak, LLC]“ALL THE GIRLS STANDING IN THE LINE FOR THE BATHROOM.” Woo, 🎙 Shay Haley! That’s some kind of hook right there! That said, anytime 🎙 Pharrell Williams is attached to a music project, you can expect a distinct, ear-catching, and unique sound.  His group, 🎙 N.E.R.D, which features Haley and 🎙 Chad Hugo, never shy away from being bold.  The lengthy titled 🎵 “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)” is a prime example of N.E.R.D being TRUE TO SELF.  A highlight from their 2008 album, 💿 Seeing Sounds, the second track is truly all over the place.  The production (🎛 The Neptunes) is a big deal, with the hyper groove, use of string bass, and the outlandish sound effects.

While Haley gets the honor of performing the outlandish, memorable hook, much of “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)” is performed by Williams.  “Cut you open and you’re just wired,” he raps in the first verse, adding, “You ain’t tired; you wanna cause a riot.” Hmm, why isn’t she tired? Well, the answer is simple: SHE’S HIGH!  The song is about girls doing cocaine! “Close your eyes, see colorful things / You wanna, let go, feel wonderful things,” Pharrell raps in the second verse, continuing, “Just a bit more just to get in the lane / So we can enter the brain and you can flip with the pain.” My, my, my!  There is contrast on the bridge, which is sung, and seems to reference the morning after this coked out experience, numbing life, apparently (“Here’s a towel, wipe your face / Cool down, have a drink, it’s on me”).  All told, 🎵 “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)” is wild, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

    11. Bobby Darin, “Splish Splash”

    💿 Bobby Darin 🏷 Atlantic • 🗓 1958

Bobby Darin, Bobby Darin [📷: Atlantic]“Splish splash, I was taking a bath / Long about a Saturday night.” Okay, so what, 🎙 Bobby Darin (1936 – 1973)? “Well, I stepped out the tub, put my feet on the floor / I wrapped the towel around me / And I opened up the door.” Um, okay, still sounds like a totally, innocent bathing experience on 🎵 “Splish Splash” from his 1958 album, 💿 Bobby Darin.  Is there more that we need to know about bath time or you being naturally nude after the bath, Bobby? “Splish splash, I jumped back in the bath / Well, how was I to know there was a party going on?” Hmm, well, that begins to explain a bit of the controversy surrounding this no. 3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, I suppose 🤷🏾️.

“Splish Splash” was actually banned by some radio stations. Why? References to nudity after Bobby Darin discovers the party going outside of the bathroom!  Ultimately, after he sees the teens dancing, he asserts, “I forgot about the bath / I went and put my dancing shoes on.” Well, at this point, we assume he’s put on shoes, but what about some clothes, Bobby? There is no clarity.  The assumption would be that dancing shoes just means he started dancing, whether he had shoes on or not.  Furthermore, beyond skipping the bath and putting that towel around him, there is no mention of a shirt, pants, or even a pair of undies.  It seems dumb that this would earn this innocent song controversy, but it was the 1950s and given Darin’s youth and the fact this song is about teens partying, it was deemed risqué.  Is it? Nope. Really, the flaw is that Darin and co-writer 🎼 Murray Kaufman failed to make sure Bobby was dressed properly! More notably on this fun, 🎛 Ahmet Ertegün / Herb Abramson production is the reference to other vintage songs: 🎵 “Lollipop”, 🎵 “Peggy Sue”, and 🎵 “Good Golly Miss Molly”.  Believe me, the kids do much worse in the 2020s then 🎵 “Splish Splash” would have ever dreamt of doing!
