Zoey G, We're Not Close Anymore © Zoey GUp-and-coming teen pop musician Zoey G keeps the momentum rolling on single “We’re Not Close Anymore,” her strong follow-up to “Runaway.”

16. That’s how old up-and-coming pop artist Zoey G is. Wow. Despite her youth, Zoey Georgeades is incredibly talented. Her talents aren’t limited to her voice – she’s also a multi-instrumentalist. After impressing on her debut single “Runaway”, as well as a Spanish version (“Amore Prohibido (Runaway)”), she follows up with another new single, “We’re Not Close Anymore.”

There’s lots to like about “We’re Not Close Anymore.”  First and foremost, Zoey G has an appealing, easygoing voice.  Her performance isn’t particularly flashy, but the cool, calm, and collected is fitting – it feels right for this particular record. In other words, she doesn’t need to deliver tons of runs or gospel histrionics to sell this one.  Beyond the voice, the production fits the modern pop vein without a hitch.  Bright synths, slick drums, and a touch of the electro-pop and urban contemporary scripts make “We’re Not Close Anymore” decadent ear candy.

“My mom was right when she said I was getting used / You’re just like all of them, so why am I confused?” Sigh, after praising her vocals and the production, we turn to the songwriting.  The message of “We’re Not Close Anymore” is a prevalent one – a relationship gone sour.  In this case, it comes from the perspective of Zoey G, who plays the role of the wronged lover.  This isn’t a brand-new concept, but it’s relatable and highly effective a million times over. The mixture of Zoey’s composure on the verses, and the lyrics of broken love, is quite potent.  The pre-chorus and chorus are golden.

Final Thoughts

After impressing with her debut single “Runaway” as well as a Spanish version (“Amore Prohibido (Runaway)”), Zoey G does the same on “We’re Not Close Anymore.” She serves up great vocals, without under- or over-singing.  Furthermore, the production is modern and well-rounded, while the songwriting sufficiently conveys the messaging. Undoubtedly, Zoey is on an upward trajectory.
