Zedd & Liam Payne, Get Low © InterscopeZedd enlists Liam Payne for a potential song-of-the-summer, “Get Low.” “Get Low” is fun, flirty, and sexy, without crossing the line.

Zedd is always good for a hit, period.  The German DJ and music producer has a knack for concocting a winning formula when it comes to pop smash.  Liam Payne, a member of One Direction, also knows something about hit-making, scoring with a sexy solo single, “Strip That Down” assisted by Quavo. Enough beating around the bush – the combo of Zedd and Liam Payne is destined for pop greatness.  Their opportunity to own summer arrives with “Get Low.”

As prefaced above, Zedd has equipped “Get Low” with the right ingredients to be successful.  Well produced, the beat drives throughout. Initially, particularly on the verse, the music is rather low key, but still has intensity.  This allows for Liam Payne to shine vocally, never inhibited by the production work.  With more steam, the production also cranks it up as well, but to quote the late, great Luther Vandross, “Never Too Much.”

Payne is on his game throughout “Get Low.” Clearly, he’s opting for a sexy persona as a solo artist, something he continues here.  What is positive about this side of Payne is that he doesn’t cross the line – he keeps it classy.  Many pop artists fail to see that sexy and explicitness don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand.  You can be sexy, as well as risqué, without being overtly explicit.  Sure, Payne is suggestive, but there’s still a hint of innocence.  The balancing act by Payne is successful, in other words.

Final Thoughts

So, how does “Get Low” stack up? As a prospect for song of the summer, it definitely has a shot.  That said, “Get Low” isn’t the song of the year by any means.  Still, this is a fun record, and Payne is both charming and tasteful with his flirty, suggestiveness. Maybe it is a gem and maybe it isn’t, but Zedd and Liam Payne have something here for sure.
