English pop-soul musician Zak Abel picks up right where he left off from his debut album with his groovy, slick, soulful new single, “Love Song.”
Back in October, I wrote that rising English pop musician Zak Abel was a gem. Since releasing his debut album, Only When We’re Naked, his ‘gem-status’ has only risen. Young and incredibly talented, not only is Abel a capable musician, he also seems like a nice guy with a great personality. For our purposes, we need to deal with the matter, rather the song at hand, “Love Song.” Does the young Brit continue being the highly impressionable individual he’s proven himself to be up to this point? Of course, he does!
From the start of “Love Song,” Zak Abel shows off what makes him great – his voice. The record is a bit abrupt, but it doesn’t take long to see where things are going. Here, he sounds gritty, nuanced, and jam-packed full of soul. There’s a rawness that only increases Abel’s authenticity artistically – you believe what he’s singing. As for the record itself, it blends dance, pop, and retro-soul. The amalgamation of those styles is highly successful and should appeal to a variety of music lovers. As for further evaluating Zak, this fusion of styles shows off his eclecticism and flexibility as a musician.
Final Thoughts
Zak Abel has so much going for him – he deserves wider recognition, particularly in the United States. The good news is, he’s just 23 years young. On “Love Song,” he checks off box after box. Soulful vocals, sick groove/overall production, and a catchy chorus for good measure. Folks, get used to seeing that handsome face, but more importantly, that gifted man.
