Rage Against the Machine poet/rapper Zack de la Rocha returns with intense comeback single, “digging for windows.”
Zack de la Rocha may not be a familiar name – at least for younger folks. De la Rocha was a member of Rage Against the Machine. Now, the poet/MC is 46 years old. He returns to the music biz with new single “digging for windows,” which is set to appear on his upcoming solo album.
“Digging for windows” opens with intense opening production. The thudding sound hits you right in the chest. Ultimately, this foreshadows an aggressive, gives no F’s type of sound. Throughout the course of the song, the production work is superb – insane!
The single opens with profanity once the production enters in:
“Fuck that bright shit The spots or the flashlights We in L.A. ducking both In the shadows with lead pipes”
De la Rocha is aggressive AF, never backing down as he raps. Numerous lyrics stand out including:
“The city’s a trap, my partner Under the lights of they choppers Bodies tools for they coffers Not worth the cost of our coffins.”
His wordplay is savvy as he interchanges capital and capitols:
“I put these caps in capitals Leave minds blazed in they capitols I step with a fury so actual fact That my offense could be capital.”
Final Thoughts
Zack de La Rocha’s return is nothing short of alluring. “digging for Windows” finds the veteran at his best, not backing down in the least. His rhymes are sharp and thought-provoking, while the supporting production is superb to the nth degree. This is by no means the type of single that seems set up for pop success, but alternative rap fans and alternative music fans should be pleased.
