Zach Palmer, Ethan | Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈

In the 16^th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2024), we highlight the song, “Ethan” performed by Zach Palmer.

Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies.  In this column, we provide background and insight into the respective musician(s), as well as analyze + go gaga over the decadent bops being served up.  Furthermore, when the music dictates deeper, more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is articulated to the fullest.  All styles of music are welcome while the songs can be classics or brand-spanking new. So, without further ado, in the 16^th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2024), we highlight “Ethan” performed by Zach Palmer.

“Ethan, I was twenty-one and barely eating / Lay you by my heart like you were teething,” Zach Palmer sings in the first verse of “Ethan”.  He continues, sadly, “Now I watch porn and politics to get you out my head.” Ugh, so sorry, Zach. Those boys – they can do a number on you! Ethan has messed up Zach, who tries “to find the metaphor for crying in a Walmart / On the way back from your house with your spit still in my mouth.” Word.  He sounds both beautiful and vulnerable in this late 2023 pop single.

The second verse is like unto the first… Okay, this isn’t a biblical thing, but it sounded good! Affected deeply, Palmer is sad to the nth degree. Admittedly, “I get high and eat too much to get you out of my head.” He seeks to cope with what ETHAN has done to him. Of course, ultimately, he’s being unhealthy in his coping mechanisms, whether it’s overindulgence in porn (politics too, these days), as well as overindulgence in food and weed.  However, the situation is relatable regardless of sexual preference. Hopefully, Zach Palmer has gotten Ethan, who could be any boy, out of his system. As a listening experience, “Ethan”, a relatively simple but heartfelt song, is rewarding.
