Rising English alternative musician YUNGBLUD brings plenty of energy and intrigue on his first new single of 2019, the intense “Loner.”
English alternative musician YUNGBLUD (Dominic Harrison) made quite a splash with his 2018 debut album, 21st Century Liability. No, Harrison didn’t produce amazing numbers or anything like that, but he masterfully established the type of artist he was. He returns with his first single of 2019, “Loner.”
“Loner” features heavy distorted guitar at the onset as YUNGBLUD sings the hella memorable chorus:
“All my friends have deserted again
And I don’t want to be a loner
In my head, I can sleep when I’m dead
Baby, don’t let the hype dilute ya.”
His heavy English accent continues to be incredibly charming and endearing (he’s a Yorkshire boy). Furthermore, his aggressive, youthful, and carefree approach continues to bode well in his favor. The verses have a more tongue-n-cheek, quasi-rapped/chanted approach. On the first verse, he sings, “I got no want for the quiet life / No forced up smiles over tired eyes / Give me a taste of the riot life / ‘Cause I’d rather be a martyr than grow tomatoes.” One the second, he states, “Treating the planet like a playground / Distraction for distraction / To cover up the shakedown / Hey now / You better not let me out.”
The pre-chorus follows each verse, in all its glory:
“So bounce if you’ve had enough
Of the people you know
So bounce if you’ve had enough
And just let go.”
Referencing the chorus once more, it’s more melodic nature trumps the more distorted, dirtier, and ‘rough around the edges’ verses.
Final Thoughts
All in all, YUNGBLUD delivers a, hard-rocking single with “Loner.” It’s energetic, intriguing, and well-executed and produced. Hopefully, Dominic Harrison experiences the come up he deserves.
