“Hello, hello, hello!” Ah, fresh blood – nothing like it whether you’re a vampire or a music enthusiast! YUNGBLUD is a 20-year old alternative musician from England.  In 2018, the young artist released his debut EP, YUNGBLUD.  That said, beyond the five-song project which includes left-field-titled numbers “Polygraph Eyes” and “Anarchist”, he released a new single, “21st Century Liability.”  This promo single for his forthcoming album ends up being my first impression of the budding artist, and it’s a stellar one.

YUNGBLUD is unapologetic, which is the expectation given the song-title and his distinct look.  No, “you can’t judge a book by its cover,” but he definitely looks the part of a rebel.  “21st Century Liability” features a rock-oriented backdrop, while YUNGBLUD embraces rapping and chanting as opposed to singing and pitch. Some of the bold lyrics he bestows upon the listener on the first verse are “I’m drinking bleach so that I feel the fire” and “I’m shaving my face with a coke covered razor.”  Wow.  On the chorus, he repeats the rebellious titular lyric, “I’m a 21st century liability.” Indeed.  While he avoids the “coke covered razor” on the second verse, he’s arguably MORE of a liability.

“I met a person I think I fell in love

A certain kind of love you can’t find in drugs

But I fucked it up need alone time

It’s like I killed myself ‘I love you long time.’”

Final Thoughts

Perhaps he is indeed a “21st Century Liability,” but YUNGBLUD proves he has ample potential on this bold, wild, alternative single.  Clearly restless, the young Brit brings freshness to the table, and that’s always welcome.  The future looks and sounds bright.
