ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 11 notable observations from the Billboard 200 πŸ“‰,  and 8 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 πŸ“‰, with πŸŽ™ Young Thug debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 (πŸ’Ώ Punk) while πŸŽ™ Adele ascends to no. 1 on the Hot 100 (🎡 β€œEasy on Me”).

Billboard 200 πŸ“‰

Young Thug, Punk [πŸ“· : 300 Entertainment / Atlantic]πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Young Thug debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album (following multiple projects, mind you), πŸ’Ώ Punk.  Per Keith Caulfield of Billboard, Thug moved 90,000 units, good enough for the no. 1 spot knocking πŸŽ™ Drake off the perch (πŸ’Ώ Certified Lover Boy slips to no. 2).

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Mac Miller debuts posthumously at no. 3 with the release of his 2014 mixtape, πŸ’Ώ Faces (it’s available for purchase for the first time).

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Coldplay debuts at no. 4 with πŸ’Ώ Music of the Spheres, reaching a better peak position than they received for πŸ’Ώ Everyday Life in 2019.  The 57,000 units isn’t that sexy for a band that once did huge numbers, but hey, they earn another top-5 album!

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ The Beatles never seem to get old, hence why an expanded version of πŸ’Ώ Let it Be re-enters the Billboard 200 impressively at no. 5.

πŸ’ Just missing the top 10, πŸŽ™ ENHYPEN debuts at no. 11 with πŸ’Ώ Dimension: Dilemma.

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Ice Nine Kills does respectably with a no. 18 bow of πŸ’Ώ Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2.  This marks the metal collective’s highest charting album of their career.

πŸ’ Once upon a time, πŸŽ™ Zac Brown Band had better days on the Billboard 200.  They settle for an average no. 27 bow for πŸ’Ώ The Comeback

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Kelly Clarkson doesn’t exactly ignite the charts up with her latest holiday effort, πŸ’Ώ When Christmas Comes Around…  It debuts modestly at no. 63.  That said, holiday albums are sometimes long-term investments that pay dividends later or can ascend depending if they catch on.  This is a β€˜wait and see’ type of situation for Clarkson.

πŸ’ Country musician πŸŽ™ Ryan Hurd debuts at no. 71 with πŸ’Ώ Pelago.  Ok…

πŸ’ Viral TikTok star πŸŽ™ PinkPantheress impacts the Billboard 200 with her debut EP, πŸ’Ώ To Hell With It, which launches at no. 73.  Nothing game changing as far as chart position, but let’s see if the artist expands her audience.

πŸ’ Hopefully, Grammy winning artist/producer πŸŽ™ FINNEAS remains optimistic after his debut album, πŸ’Ώ Optimist debuts modestly at no. 104.

Billboard Hot 100 πŸ“‰

Adele, 30 [πŸ“·: Melted Stone / Columbia]πŸ’ Unsurprisingly, after cracking the Hot 100 at no. 68 last week, πŸŽ™ Adele sees 🎡 β€œEasy on Me” ascend to no. 1.  She knocks πŸŽ™ Lil Nas X and πŸŽ™ Jack Harlow out of the top spot as 🎡 β€œIndustry Baby” slips to no. 3 after one week in the penthouse.

πŸ’ After rising as high as no. 3, πŸŽ™ Walker Hayes sees 🎡 β€œFancy Like” take a step back at no. 4 with no gains.

πŸ’ Expectedly, πŸŽ™ Young Thug impacts the Hot 100 after πŸ’Ώ Punk debuts at no. 1on the Billboard 200.  His highest debuting track is 🎡 β€œBubbly” featuring πŸŽ™ Drake and πŸŽ™ Travis Scott at no. 20.

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Lil Durk debuts at no. 39 with his short but potent single, 🎡 β€œPissed Me Off.” Those are some strong words there Durk!

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Loza Alexander debuts at no. 45 with 🎡 β€œLets Go Brandon.” Let’s f**king go!

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Summer Walker and πŸŽ™ JT launch at no. 56 with 🎡 β€œEx for a Reason,” which is set to appear on Walker’s forthcoming sophomore album.

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ NEIKED, πŸŽ™ Mae Muller, and πŸŽ™ Polo G debut at no. 57 with 🎡 β€œBetter Days.”

πŸ’ πŸŽ™ Coldplay and πŸŽ™ Selena Gomez debut at no. 91 with 🎡 β€œLet Somebody Go,” which appears on the band’s πŸ’Ώ Music of the Spheres album.
