Scanning the Charts (10/27/21): Young Thug Debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; Adele sees βEasy on Meβ ascend to no. 1 on the Hot 100.
W
ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isnβt extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out 11 notable observations from the Billboard 200
Billboard 200
Young Thug debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album (following multiple projects, mind you),
Punk. Per Keith Caulfield of Billboard, Thug moved 90,000 units, good enough for the no. 1 spot knocking
Drake off the perch (
Certified Lover Boy slips to no. 2).
Mac Miller debuts posthumously at no. 3 with the release of his 2014 mixtape,
Faces (itβs available for purchase for the first time).
Coldplay debuts at no. 4 with
Music of the Spheres, reaching a better peak position than they received for
Everyday Life in 2019. The 57,000 units isnβt that sexy for a band that once did huge numbers, but hey, they earn another top-5 album!
The Beatles never seem to get old, hence why an expanded version of
Let it Be re-enters the Billboard 200 impressively at no. 5.
Just missing the top 10,
ENHYPEN debuts at no. 11 with
Dimension: Dilemma.
Ice Nine Kills does respectably with a no. 18 bow of
Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2. This marks the metal collectiveβs highest charting album of their career.
Once upon a time,
Zac Brown Band had better days on the Billboard 200. They settle for an average no. 27 bow for
The Comeback.
Kelly Clarkson doesnβt exactly ignite the charts up with her latest holiday effort,
When Christmas Comes Aroundβ¦ It debuts modestly at no. 63. That said, holiday albums are sometimes long-term investments that pay dividends later or can ascend depending if they catch on. This is a βwait and seeβ type of situation for Clarkson.
Country musician
Ryan Hurd debuts at no. 71 with
Pelago. Okβ¦
Viral TikTok star
PinkPantheress impacts the Billboard 200 with her debut EP,
To Hell With It, which launches at no. 73. Nothing game changing as far as chart position, but letβs see if the artist expands her audience.
Hopefully, Grammy winning artist/producer
FINNEAS remains optimistic after his debut album,
Optimist debuts modestly at no. 104.
Billboard Hot 100
Unsurprisingly, after cracking the Hot 100 at no. 68 last week,
Adele sees
βEasy on Meβ ascend to no. 1. She knocks
Lil Nas X and
Jack Harlow out of the top spot as
βIndustry Babyβ slips to no. 3 after one week in the penthouse.
After rising as high as no. 3,
Walker Hayes sees
βFancy Likeβ take a step back at no. 4 with no gains.
Expectedly,
Young Thug impacts the Hot 100 after
Punk debuts at no. 1on the Billboard 200. His highest debuting track is
βBubblyβ featuring
Drake and
Travis Scott at no. 20.
Lil Durk debuts at no. 39 with his short but potent single,
βPissed Me Off.β Those are some strong words there Durk!
Loza Alexander debuts at no. 45 with
βLets Go Brandon.β Letβs f**king go!
Summer Walker and
JT launch at no. 56 with
βEx for a Reason,β which is set to appear on Walkerβs forthcoming sophomore album.
NEIKED,
Mae Muller, and
Polo G debut at no. 57 with
βBetter Days.β
Coldplay and
Selena Gomez debut at no. 91 with
βLet Somebody Go,β which appears on the bandβs
Music of the Spheres album.
