Idiosyncratic southern rapper extraordinaire Young Thug enlists a couple of friends (J. Cole and Travis Scott) for the dripping banger, “The London.”
Superstar rap collaborations are ‘kind of a big deal.’ Once again, the rap world has bestowed upon us a gift from the heavens – “The London.” “The London” is credited to idiosyncratic southern rapper Young Thug. Featured on this Thugga joint is none other than J. Cole and Travis Scott. The results are pretty satisfying.
Following a brief intro by J. Cole, Travis Scott does what he does best – deliver a vibe-heavy chorus. On the chorus, Scott is trying to meet a hottie at The London, a luxury hotel.
“Me-meet me at The London
If you find time, we can run one
Talk about some things we can’t undo
You just send the pin; I can find you
6’1”, on the money, 9’2”…”
J. Cole follows with a killer verse that focuses on stealing other dudes’ women (“Could hit your bitch, you could never hit mine…”) and his drip (“I did the math, it’s like two thousand dollars every word”). However, Cole kills it at the end of the verse as he spits:
“I’m ballin’ on a pussy nigga like Juwanna Mann
I’m drownin’ all inside the pussy like I never swam
Ayy, fuck your IG, I put somethin’ on your sonogram
I’m the man, ayy, ayy.”
Young Thug, the main attraction, definitely has a tough act to follow. But follow he does with his distinct approach shining through… or at least standing out from the crowd. Like J. Cole, he ends with a bang:
“Got your broad in the garage eatin’ semen
Every time a nigga go back to the ward
Niggas act like they wanna start
And we leave them on the cement.”
Final Thoughts
A lot has been made of the lyrics of “The London.” Why? It’s a drip anthem. Young Thug smartly taps Cole and Scott, while getting a bit of shine in his own right. Furthermore, the three rappers are backed by solid production work. Is “The London” transcendent? Nope, but it’s a vibe, perfect for summer.
