Scanning the Charts (5/1/21): Rapper Young Thug Launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2.

SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉,  and FOUR observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Young Thug launching at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Billboard 200 📉

💭 🎙 Young Thug earns the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with 💿 Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2.

💭 🎙 Eric Church debuts at no. 5 with 💿 Heart, the first of two albums the country musician released a week apart in 2021. 

💭 🎙 Greta Van Fleet debuts at no. 7 with their third studio album, 💿 The Battle at Garden’s Gate. 

💭 There are three more debuts in the top-50 of the Billboard 200: 🎙 Big Grim Reaper (💿 Big Scarr, no. 25), 🎙 The Offspring (💿 Let the Bad Times Roll, no. 27), and 🎙 Cannibal Corpse (💿 Violence Unimagined, no. 45).

💭 🎙 Queen Naija reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 89 with the expanded edition of her 2020 album, 💿 missunderstood (💿 missunderstood…still).

Billboard Hot 100 📉

💭 🎙 Polo G spends a second week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with 🎵 “Rapstar”.

💭 Expectedly, 🎙 Young Thug impacts the Hot 100 with songs from 💿 Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2 beginning with 🎵 “Solid” (with 🎙 Gunna and featuring 🎙 Drake) launching at no. 12.

💭 Married country music stars 🎙 Ryan Hurd and 🎙 Maren Morris debut at no. 91 on the Hot 100 with their single, 🎵 “Chasing After You.”

💭 🎙 Moneybagg Yo and 🎙 BIG30 secure a spot on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Go!” which debuts at no. 96.
