Yo Gotti, Put a Date on It [Photo Credit: Epic]Tennessee rapper Yo Gotti returns with an infectious banger, assisted by the ubiquitous, rising rapper Lil Baby, “Put a Date on It.”

“Why you competin’ with me, n***a / We are not playing with the same check.” Burn! Yo Gotti is almost always good for a banger.  Sure, those bangers tend to be shallow AF, but they are bangers nonetheless. “Down in the DM” and “Rake It Up” are just a couple of gems that the Tennessee rapper has dropped over the course of his career.  This time, he’s back with “Put a Date on It,” assisted by the ubiquitous Lil Baby. Guess what the result is? Banger, of course!

What makes “Put a Date on It” a surefire gem? Arguably, the first pro regarding the record is the production.  The production slaps hard, anchored by a trap beat, with epic synths atop (including a horn synth).  This is naturally perfect fuel for the fire, and the fire begins with a lengthy, but epic hook performed by both Yo Gotti and Lil Baby.  Gotti handles the majority of the first half of the chorus, while Baby continues the excellence on the second.  The rhymes aren’t game changing, but plenty of game is spit, whether it’s the “Sack coming in and the money don’t fold / Gotta put a stamp on it,” or “Runnin’ through the money and the bitch keep callin’ / Hold up she gon’ have to wait on it.”

Beyond the chorus, Yo Gotti does his thing on the first verse, talking shit as always.  Again, nothing game changing, but plenty of game is being spit (“Edibles, I’m tryna fuck ‘em the same night / I put two hoes on the same flight”).  Lil Baby is true to self on the second verse, serving up a flow quite similar to that on his breakout hit, “Yes Indeed.” Again, he doesn’t say anything of much substance, but the vibe is worth something (“If she suck good dick, she gon’ leave with a purse”).

Final Thoughts

All in all, Yo Gotti delivers the perfect banger to warm up a bitter cold January, sigh.  Sure, no parts of “Put a Date on It” qualify as transcendent, but, the streets, the club, and even the car or crib just got a sick new banger.
