YG, Stop Snitchin [Photo Credit: Def Jam]YG makes his point on “Stop Snitchin,” but the song itself and his overall argument are strengthened by the accompanying music video.

“Me and bitch n*ggas, we don’t conversate.” Wow, YG, wow.  Obviously, on his two-and-a-half-minute single “Stop Snitchin,” the West Coast rapper isn’t playing around.  Who is the target of “Stop Snitchin?” Apparently, controversial rapper 6ix9ine.

“Stop Snitchin” opens incredibly aggressive with the repetitive, profane chorus: “Bitch n*gga, snitch n*gga, ho n*gga, bitch n*gga.” Yeah, not the deepest lyrics ever penned.  A minimalist, rhythmic backdrop fuels YG’s ‘fire’ which ultimately, doesn’t bring anything new to the table we haven’t heard previously. Since “Stop Snitchin” is a diss track, he mostly insults “bitch n*ggas” in every offensive way possible. On the first verse, he asserts, “You’s a bitch, your mama know you a bitch / Your girl even know you a bitch / I don’t know how she suck your dick, pause.”  Wow! On the second verse, the insults continue as he spits, “No testosterone, you scared to catch a fade / I got in a fight and you ain’t fight / You ran off, so next time I see you, I’ll knock you out on sight…”

Final Thoughts

So, how does “Stop Snitchin” stack up? It’s okay, but as a standalone record, YG doesn’t make a transcendent statement.  The bigger statement actually comes with the support of the accompanying music video.  Here, YG relates snitching to slavery – slaves betraying their own people by snitching.  “Stop Snitchin” the song is effective enough, but it doesn’t rank among the crème de la crème of the rapper’s catalogue.
