Cutting straight to the chase, “Konclusions” is a record that centers around a familiar topic – matters of the heart.  Specifically, “Konclusions” features two high profile musicians – YG and Kehlani.  If you don’t happen to be completely ‘woke’ to pop culture, well perhaps you were unaware that both of these West coasters are in a relationship.  Let’s just say, people are definitely talking about the song, which is, well, raw to say the least.

Focusing on the sound and vibe of “Konclusions,” it’s arguably the biggest selling point.  Jahaan Sweet, Allen Ritter, and Boi 1da do an excellent job from the production end of things.  The sound supports the romantic, sexual vibes that YG and Kehlani are going for.  Also, amplifying the production work is a 2Pac interpolation, “Hail Mary”.  Of course, it’s not the sound that anyone is talking about, it’s the content – no need to put it off anymore.

Kehlani actually doesn’t contribute to the rawness, with the exception of being the subject.  She sounds beautiful on the chorus, which is all about her love for YG. It’s nothing monumental mind you, but… yeah.  So, it all comes down to her boo, who is X-rated on a number of occasions.  “Top of the mornin’, you throw that thang back,” he raps on the first verse, “I love how you keep that thang waxed.” Hmm…  Later, at the end of the verse, he spits:

“Don’t wanna know your past, ‘cause I’m your new
I just wanna know every nigga you sent some nudes
Do you wanna fuck with me how I fuck with you?
I wanna know if we can fuck up in this coupe.”

On the second verse, he addresses the cheating scandal at the end:

“I had us lookin’ crazy in front of the club
That cameraman got me fucked up
Even though it wasn’t what they said it was
Red roses down your hallway, lead you to your tub.”

Okay…

Final Thoughts

So, what does one make of “Konclusions?” That’s a good question, and after listening to it, I’m not sure.  This is the type of record, listening to it, you feel it’s more ‘temporary’ than ‘timeless.’ As aforementioned, the production is sleek, and Kehlani sings well.  YG is certainly the ‘talk’ of the song, with his blunt and raw lyrics, drenched in sex and addressing the scandal.  I dunno, it’s enjoyable, at least for the moment, so we’ll leave it at that.
