Yellow Claw continues releasing singles in advance of their new album, ‘New Blood.’ Their latest single, “To the Max,” features MC Kekel, Lil Debbie, Bok Nero, and MC Gustta.
Dutch producer/DJ duo Yellow Claw – Jim Taihuttu and Nils Rondhuis – are known for “bass-heavy productions and riotous performances.” The duo has dropped numerous singles in 2018, in preparation for their third album, New Blood. Singles released in advance of the project include “Villain” (featuring Valentina), “Bittersweet” (featuring Sofia Reyes), and “Fake Chanel” (featuring A$AP Ferg and Creek Boyz). Taihuttu and Nils enlist MC Kekel, Lil Debbie, Bok Nero, and MC Gustta for their latest ear candy, “To the Max.”
Yellow Claw continues to keep things incredibly interesting. After the trap-infused “Fake Chanel,” rap is the prevalent style on “To the Max,” but it’s also fused with a dash of Latin-tinged, Brazilian flavor. The two American rappers – Bok Nero and Lil Debbie – dominate the first part of the record. Man, oh, man do they have something to truly dominate at that. Taihuttu and Nils spoil them with an infectious Latin-tinged synth loop that instantly gets stuck in your head. Both rappers slay, with Lil Debbie serving up a show-stopping hook. As for the second half the song, it’s dominated by the two Brazilian rappers, MC Gustta and MC Kekel, rapping in Portuguese. Translate the lyrics to English, and the rhymes by Gustta and Kekel look pretty standard on paper – slang and profanity included.
Final Thoughts
Yellow Claw and their star-studded cast ‘bring the heat’ on “To the Max.” Without a doubt, “To the Max” is one my favorites from the New Blood cycle, definitely building up anticipation for the project. What makes this awesome? Great production (Yellow Claw) and hard-hitting, unapologetic rhymes (MC Kekel, Lil Debbie, Bok Nero, and MC Gustta).
