nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  On the 8th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Intimacy” by 🎙 Years & Years.

Theme & Lyrics

Bitmoji Image“It’s too late to get off this road, I want ya / But I’m not one for casual intimacy.” Woo! That is a personal and telling statement, 🎙 Olly Alexander.  It’s also sexual too, fitting perfectly into the After Dark 🕛 🌃 sphere! The 🎙 Years & Years frontman – and sole member now – desires more than a casual, sexual relationship in the future, at least that’s how it comes over on 🎵 “Intimacy” (💿 Night Call, 2022). Even so, for now, he wants this guy so much, he has no plans to stop ‘being with’ him. In the chorus, he continues, “Maybe one day something will change in me, mhm / Intimacy.”

Bitmoji ImageWhat’s interesting about the pop song is that Olly seems to view intimacy two different ways.  Casual intimacy is associated with casual sex, which he references throughout “Intimacy” both positively and negatively to some extent.  Before we get the first verse, Alexander asserts, “Give me it now / Give me it, give me it right now.” That ‘give it,’ of course, references sex, confirmed in the first verse.  “No need to be pampered to be your man,” Olly sings, continuing, “If all you got is under the covers then I’m good with that.”  Of course, he also desires something deeper, even if he’s giving mixed messages. See verse two:

“Your sex is heaven (Sex is heaven)

As far as I’m concerned (As I’m concerned)

I want you to stay

But I don’t want you to be another lesson learned (Ooh).”

So, the sex is lit but Olly also wants more intimate intimacy.  Noted.

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji Image🎵 “Intimacy” gives us the best of both worlds from Years & Years.  Sure, there’s awesome sex, but also, it explores going deeper transcending sex. No, Olly isn’t willing to give up that pleasure, but he also doesn’t merely want to be in a relationship that’s dominated by sex alone.  This brief cut fits the bill of After Dark 🕛 🌃, but doesn’t merely wallow in it!
