Wolf Alice, Blue Weekend [📷: RCA]British alternative band Wolf Alice shine on their short but sweet single, “No Hard Feelings,” from their forthcoming third LP, Blue Weekend.

“No hard feelings, honey / There’ll be no bad blood.” Ah, so good to know 🎙 Wolf Alice.  The alternative collective is set to release their new album, 💿 Blue Weekend, June 4, 2021.  Three singles have been released as of yet, including the short but sweet song at hand, 🎵 “No Hard Feelings”.  In the context of the album, “No Hard Feelings” appears as the penultimate track.  So, does the band ‘bring the heat’ – totally ‘tickle one’s fancy’? Of course, they do!

Although “No Hard Feelings” only runs two-and-a-half-minutes in duration, there are ample pros. It starts, well, at the start.  Here, there’s awesome driving rhythm, which sets the tone. In addition to the driving nature of the production (🎛 Markus Dravs), the entirety of the backdrop is quite nice.  Wolf Alice never do too much, certainly never inhibiting the vocals by 🎙 Ellie Rowsell. Rowsell, of course, is the big piece of the puzzle, making “No Hard Feelings” so successful. She serves up beautiful, tender lead vocals. I love the tone as well as the vocal production – elite! In addition to beautiful vocals, the melody itself is tuneful and quite easy on the ears. The songwriting is another selling point, with thoughtful lyrics throughout.  There is no true chorus, but at the end of each verse, the titular lyric rears its head (“No hard feelings, honey”), preceding a closing line with variations that have the same overall effect.

Final Thoughts 💭

All in all, Ellie Rowsell and Wolf Alice shine on “No Hard Feelings.”  Yes, it’s brief but more importantly, it’s incredibly potent.  Recapping the excellence, “No Hard Feelings” features fine production, top-notch vocals, and terrific songwriting.  With all boxes checked off, “No Hard Feelings” sets up Blue Weekend for success, period.
