“Show me the way.”
Four simple but incredibly moving words 🙌. Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes recorded timeless gospel music.  It is hard not to be moved by Tyler, Texas’ Willie Neal Johnson (1935 – 2001), who was one of a kind, filled with the spirit of the Lord.  Once again, his faith shines through the powerful “Show Me The Way”, the fourth track on the collective’s 2001 compilation album, At Their Best. It was written by Johnson and produced by Shannon Williams.

“Show Me The Way” begins with gorgeous, impressive guitar playing. The tone is set. Following the instrumental introduction, the band is locked in.  The guitar continues to shine, while the bass line is active, and the drums and percussion provide a mighty, rhythmic anchor.  Willie Neal Johnson leads the way with his gritty, soul-stirring vocals.  He gets tremendous backup from The Gospel Keynotes, who carry the melody and key lyrics. The theme is simple but meaningful: petitioning God for guidance.  Likewise, the lyrics are uncomplicated, yet pack a sizable punch: “God, I’m your child /…Down here, Lord, I need your power / Show me the way.” “Show Me The Way” does not need extensive analysis. Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes keep it simple while masterfully capturing the wonder-working power of God.
