Rising boy band Why Don’t We impresses with their slick, new single, “Trust Fund Baby.” “Trust Fund Baby” successfully blends pop, rap, and R&B.
The boy band is still a thing, believe it or not. There are newbies joining the fold of the boy band, including up-and-comers Why Don’t We. Why Don’t We is comprised of five members: Corbyn, Daniel, Zach, Jonah, and Jack. After dropping a Christmas EP, A Why Don’t We Christmas, the quintet drops a hot new single, “Trust Fund Baby.”
“Trust Fund Baby” is comprised of superb production cues. These cues include piano and synths – particularly the biting brass synths. Following the spirited, edgy production on the verses, there’s a smoother backdrop, with snaps on the pre-chorus. The articulated, bigger sound returns on the chorus, which is the crème de la crème.
With so much attention paid to the production, what about the vocalists? The members of the band deliver strong performances throughout the course of the album. The vocals take on a hip-hop-oriented sound – a ‘pop-rap’ approach. Lyrically, “Trust Fund Baby” is a bit tongue-in-cheek and corny, but incredibly fun. The chorus is catchy, benefiting from NOT being cliché. It’s not every day you hear a pop song referencing trust fund babies. Some additional selling points include the bridge, and the soulful vocal ad-libs.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Why Don’t We land a hit with “Trust Fund Baby.” Great production, vocals, and oodles of personality. Yeah, it’s corny to some extent, but this is boy band song and that’s part of the formula. Winning by all means.
