Why Don't We, "I Still Do" / "Come to Brazil" [Photo Credits: Signature Entertainment / Atlantic]Rising boy band Why Don’t We delivers two short, incredibly sweet, and suggestive pop singles with “I Still Do” and “Come to Brazil.”

In 2018, the boy band newbies Why Don’t Me (Corbyn Besson, Daniel Seavey, Zach Herron, Jonah Marais, and Jack Avery) released their highly-anticipated debut album, 8 Letters. 8 Letters arrived after releasing numerous singles and EPs.  In 2019, the collective continues its ascent continuing to release music with singles “I Still Do” and “Come to Brazil.”  Both songs keep it short and sweet, clocking in at under two-and-a-half minutes.

“I Still Do”

“I Still Do” straddles that “thin line between love and hate.” “There is no better view / Than watching you strip down after we argue,” Jonah Marais sings on the first verse.  That particular line depicts an instance of sexiness – make-up sex if you will – following an argument.

On the pre-chorus, the break-up is explored, but ultimately, the falsetto-laden chorus exemplifies the ‘power of love’ you might say:

“I still do
Love you, hate you
I still do
Hate to love you
I still do want you to want me
Like I’m wanting you, oh I still do.”

The second verse (Daniel Seavey) continues to explore the hate, while also cleverly highlighting the power of the sex – “‘Cause you got the upper hand now that I’m lonely / And I feel the past pulling my body.” The bridge further confirms the desire on this well-produced, pleasant, sexy pop joint.

“Come to Brazil”

“Come to Brazil” keeps things incredibly sexy – “We was up late to the daytime / She was movin’ to the bassline / Big bubble, little waistline…”.  Furthermore, the boys exhibit plenty of swagger (“The party was boring, then without warning / Saw something foreign walk through the door”) and of course, sexual innuendo.  “I Still Do” had some Latin music cues, but the cues are more pronounced on “Come to Brazil.” This record is a fine companion-piece to “I Still Do” offering respective similarities and contrasts.  The wheel isn’t reinvented, but the boys have a short, but sweet gem on their hands.

Final Thoughts

Both “I Still Do” and “Come to Brazil” are enjoyable singles from Why Don’t We – no questions asked.  Both are sexy without crossing the line – pretty cool.  Which song is better? It’s sort of a toss-up honestly.  Neither is a game changer, yet both are worthy of repeated spins.
