Why Don't We, Big Plans [Photo Credits: Signature / Atlantic]Rising boy band Why Don’t We returns post-8 Letters with their first brand-new single of 2019, “Big Plans.”

“Baby, give me one year, yeah / Take my hand, take a leap / Girl, you gotta wait and see / Where I take it from here.” Why Don’t Me confirms the fact that the boy band is still alive. In 2018, the boy band newbies (Corbyn Besson, Daniel Seavey, Zach Herron, Jonah Marais, and Jack Avery) released their highly-anticipated debut album, 8 Letters. Post-8 Letters, the boys are back again with a new single, “Big Plans.”

“Big Plans” has an appealing, urban-pop sound that works well for Why Don’t We. At merely three minutes, the record is an optimal duration.  Adding to the soundness of the record is a relatively straightforward form comprised of verse, pre-chorus, chorus, post-chorus and later, a bridge.  As always, duties are split reasonably between the boys, with the first verse performed by Daniel, followed by a pre-chorus courtesy of Corbyn, and the chorus and post-chorus courtesy of Zach and Jack.  The aforementioned lyrical excerpt appears from the second verse, performed by the only group member yet to be mentioned, Jonah.

Beyond the standout lyrics from the second verse, the pre-chorus is certainly chivalrous:

“That’s the beautiful thing about us

‘Fore all the diamonds and rings, we got trust

Roll with me, get it right, faded on a summer night

Let’s see where it takes us.”

The following chorus is the catchiest, most memorable portion of the record:

“I got real big plans, baby, for you and me

So, love me for who I am and for who I’m gonna be

Ain’t got everything you want, but got everything you need

So take a chance, take a chance on me.”

Final Thoughts

There are other notable notes regarding the enjoyable “Big Plans.” The lightness of the production with guitar accompaniment, anchored by an urban-pop beat is a pro.  Furthermore, Why Don’t We deliver solid vocals.  The ad-libs at the end of the record stand out – both the powered portion as well as the falsetto.  The wheel isn’t reinvented with “Big Plans,” but Why Don’t We deliver another winning record all in all.
