Theme & Lyrics โœ

deep breathsโ€œFor every win / Someone must fail / But there comes a point when / When we exhale.โ€  Iconic R&B and pop singer ๐ŸŽ™ Whitney Houston had an extraordinary run with soundtracks in the 1990s.  Sure, she released two studio albums โ€“ ๐Ÿ’ฟ Iโ€™m Your Baby Tonight (1990) and ๐Ÿ’ฟ My Love Is Your Love (1998) โ€“ but there were three key soundtracks she was part of, including ๐Ÿ’ฟ Waiting to Exhale (1995). Her key contribution to Waiting to Exhale is the no. 1 hit, ๐ŸŽต โ€œExhale (Shoop Shoop)โ€, written by the one and only ๐ŸŽผโœ Babyface.  This is Babyface contributing top-notch songwriting and Whitney Houston at her best.

sounds goudaโ€œExhale (Shoop Shoop)โ€ is a quintessential 90s classic.  It perfectly captures the adult contemporary R&B vibes of the time.  Houston sings incredibly, delivering an emotional, expressive performance.  Why does this exhalation need to happen? Heartbreak, of course โ€“ itโ€™s a beast! The three verses are incredible (โ€œWhen you got friends to wish you well / Youโ€™ll find a point when / You will exhaleโ€), but itโ€™s that sing-along chorus, with all those โ€œshoops,โ€ that steals the show.  Houston, of course, makes it sound effortless.

โ€œShoop, shoop, shoop

Shoop be doop shoop shoop

Shoop be doop shoop shoop (shoo shoo shoo huh) โ€ฆโ€

Final Thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ

classicIf you had a black soundtrack in the 1990s, you know youโ€™d betta call Whitney Houston โ€“ she unleashed straight-up magic.  Itโ€™s not surprising that โ€œExhale (Shoop Shooop)โ€ was a surefire gem that would ultimately win a ๐Ÿ† Grammy.  Notably, ๐ŸŽ™ Robin Thicke released a cover  in 2012.  Heโ€™s not the only one to cover this certified classic.
