Wet, Still Run [Photo Credit: Columbia]Brooklyn alternative/indie pop trio Wet shines on “You’re Not Wrong,” the fourth advance single from their sophomore album, ‘Still Run.’

“Oh, when I think about it baby / You’re not wrong.” Brooklyn, New York indie pop trio Wet (Kelly Zutrau, Joe Valle, and Marty Sulkow) is back, and in a big way.  The collective, formed in 2012, released their first album, Don’t You, in 2016.  In preparation of their sophomore album, Still Run (July 13, 2018), Zutrau and company release a triumphant fourth advanced single, “You’re Not Wrong.”

Wet provides some seriously decadent ear candy with “You’re Not Wrong,” period.  Arguably, the first thing that grabs the listener’s attention is the production and sound of the record.  Rostam produces (always a ‘blessing’), helping to capture a unique fusion of alternative, alt-pop, and R&B.  The ostinato piano, old-school bass line, punchy guitar, and groove form a stellar backdrop for Kelly Zutrau to sing over.  Her vocals are clear and commanding, accentuated by a dash of distortion.  Zutrau never over-sings, delivering a balanced performance that still showcases plenty of nuance and soulfulness.

Beyond the production and vocals, the songwriting is superb.  There are three, relatively simple, yet effectively and sufficiently penned verses.  Wet keeps it pretty straightforward, relying on simplicity as opposed to being verbose or incredibly complex.  The chorus, partially excerpted at the very beginning, is quite catchy – the centerpiece of this record.

Final Thoughts

“You’re Not Wrong” is an absolutely marvelous record without question.  The production by Rostam shines.  Kelly Zutrau impresses with her awesome pipes.  The songwriting keeps it simple, yet effectively articulates the central idea.  What more can you ask for in an advance single? This is quite a roaring start for Wet ahead of Still Run.
