Weezer, "I Love the USA" [📷: Crush Music / Weezer]Weezer has already released an album in 2016: Weezer (The White Album). While the band likely isn’t preparing to release a second album, they do release a single that doesn’t appear on their current album.  Patriotic single “I Love The USA” honors NASA according to Rolling Stone.

“I Love the USA” opens with rhythmic piano chords which, sets the tone of the record. Rivers Cuomo sounds terrific, showing off vocals that are as “clear as a bell.” On the chorus, he really “belts it out,” showing assertiveness. Lyrically, “I Love the USA” is centered around American things. The chorus is simple, but catchy as albeit:

“I love the USA
I love the USA
Fuck yeah, this place is great
I love the USA”

Obviously, Rivers dropping the f-bomb literally intensifies the effect and sentiment of the message.  One has to wonder, was Rivers taking a page out of Team America: World Police (“America, fuck yeah!”)? Beyond the patriotic lyrics, there are plenty of thoughtful production touches – guitar, synths, and a dash of urban influence (just a dash).

Final Thoughts

Overall, “I Love the USA” is an enjoyable, unexpected song from the band. It’s well performed by Cuomo, who shows off his assertive set of pipes. While it’s simple, the chorus is catchy.
