usic chart analysis, here we come! Scanning the Charts is exactly what it says it is.  We peruse – scan – through the Billboard Charts and pick out eye-catching happenings. Scanning the Charts isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, we list 9 observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and 7 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with Encanto dominating both charts as “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” ascends to no. 1 on the Hot 100.

Billboard 200  

The Encanto soundtrack spends a second consecutive week at no. 1 no the Billboard 200.

Rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again debuts at no. 2 with his latest album, Colors.

Middle-aged country standout Walker Hayes earns his first top-10 album with Country Stuff: The Album, which launches at no. 9. 

The late, great Meat Loaf sees Bat Out of Hell re-enter the Billboard 200 at a brand-new peak position: no. 13.

iann dior debuts at no. 28 with On to Better Things.

LLD (Long Live Young Dolph), a compilation by various artists commemorating the late Memphis rapper, launches at no. 44.

After debuting at no. 6 last week, The Lumineers free fall this week.  Brightside slides from no. 6 to no. 90! Down 84 spots!

John Mellencamp sneaks onto the Billboard 200.  Strictly a One-Eyed Jack bows at no. 196.

Also sneaking onto the Billboard 200 is Teddy Swims who sees his latest EP, Tough Love, debut at no. 200.

Billboard Hot 100

As foretold last week, The ubiquitous Encanto record, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” tops the Hot 100 this week, ascending from no. 2 to no. 1.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” knocks Adele’s “Easy on Me” off its perch after

Ten non-consecutive weeks at no. 1.  It doesn’t fall too far, of course – no. 2.  You could say, the chart gods “took it easy” on Adele!

Charlie Puth earns the top debut on the Hot 100 as “Light Switch” launches at no. 42.

Beginning at no. 58, YoungBoy Never Broke Again impacts the Hot 100 with many songs from his Colors including “No Switch” and “Bring It On” (no. 60).

Key Glock has surefire pride on the Hot 100! His single, “Proud” bows at no. 73.  

Yung Bleu and Kehlani debut at no. 91 with “Beautiful Lies.”

So far, Chris Brown is off to an ‘iffy’ start with   “Iffy”, which tumbles from no. 71 to no. 100 in its second week on the charts.
