It’s a long way off until the Grammy nominations are even announced for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. That said after half of 2016 has passed – not to mention eligible albums from late 2015 – who might have an edge in earning a statuette this year? So hypothetically, if the Grammys were held right now, the following would be victorious:
Record of the Year:
Adele, “Hello” (25)
Other likely nominees:Lukas Graham, “7 Years”
Ask yourself this question – right now, is there really a better choice for the year’s record of the year? The answer should be a resounding no. While the fanfare surrounding “Hello” has died down, it wouldn’t be surprising if “Hello” remains the record to beat come 2017.
Album of the Year:
Beyoncé, Lemonade
Other likely nominees:Adele, 25; Rihanna, Anti; Radiohead, A Moon Shaped Pool
Realistically, this might still end up being Adele’s category to lose. Incorrectly when Beyoncé was nominated for album of the year, I predicted it might finally give Queen Bey the big one. It did not – Beyoncé underperformed, ultimately losing Best Urban Contemporary album to Pharrell Williams’ GIRL. Despite the questionable odds, Lemonade just might have a stronger case than Beyoncé considering the universal acclaim.
Song of the Year:
Adele, “Hello” (25)
Other likely nominees:Lukas Graham, “7 Years”
Again, finding a better candidate that fits the mold of song of the year is difficult at this point, despite numerous songs released up until this point. “Hello” still has the formula boding well in its favor and will be a tough out for sure. If Adele doesn’t win her second album of the year, it won’t be shocking to see her take home both record and song awards.
Best New Artist:
Lukas Graham
Other likely nominees:Maren Morris; Jon Bellion
Best new artist is a toss-up honestly. Perhaps someone will separate themselves from the pack once true nominations occur, but it’s hard to argue against Lukas Graham, who had a gargantuan hit with “7 Years.”
