“Shut Up and Dance” breakout alternative band Walk the Moon returns with another fun, groovy, and infectious single, “One Foot.” The ‘beat goes on.’
“If you don’t dare look back / Just keep your eyes on me / I said, ‘You’re holding back’ / She said, ‘Shut up and dance with me.’” Yep, that’s the song that eclectic alternative band Walk the Moon are known for. Breakouts are sweet, but following up a breakout – that’s a feat. Luckily, the Cincinnati collective are pretty good at the music thing, delivering a solid new single with “One Foot.”
“One Foot” commences exuberantly with ripe falsetto from frontman Nicholas Petricca. Additionally, the production work is bright, anchored down by a driving groove. Following up “Shut Up and Dance” is an arduous task, but Walk the Moon certainly do justice with “One Foot.” The vocals are strong throughout it course, the lyrics are catchy (particularly the chorus), the production work is slick AF, and the song is well-rounded.
There is no glaring con to be found on “One Foot.” None. By all means, its virtues are indeed virtuous. If one is searching deep for a rub, it’s simply the fact that “One Foot” isn’t “Shut Up and Dance.” “Shut Up and Dance” serves as the breakout song from Walk the Moon, and no matter what else they release, it will be the song that comes to mind first. As catchy and well-executed as “One Foot” is, it simply doesn’t supersede “Shut Up and Dance,” and never will.

The verdict is in on “One Foot.” Ultimately, Walk the Moon deliver the goods. There is no way to beat “Shut Up and Dance,” but Walk the Moon do a fantastic job of letting ‘the beat go on.’ Great vocals, solid production, and catchy songwriting make this a winner.
