Welcome to Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.ย  Featured songs arenโ€™t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better โ€“ be LIFTED to new heights!ย  So, for the 50th edition of Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ย (2023), we highlight ๐ŸŽต โ€œOh What Loveโ€ as performed by ๐ŸŽ™ Vickie Winans.

Vickie Winans, Live in Detroit II [๐Ÿ“ท: Light]โ€œOh, what love, He has for me / That He would give His life?โ€ The one and only, Jesus, thatโ€™s who, ๐ŸŽ™ Vickie Winans. Back in the day, my mother would play Winansโ€™ ๐Ÿ’ฟ Live In Detroit (1997) and ๐Ÿ’ฟ Live In Detroit II (1999) nonstop. ย To this day, both of these albums are ingrained because Iโ€™ve heard and been uplifted by them over and over โ€“ they never grow old.ย  One of the great songs from Live In Detroit II is ๐ŸŽต โ€œOh What Loveโ€, which speaks to Godโ€™s (Jesusโ€™) ultimate sacrifice of his life.ย  As Winans sings the lyrics, she is incredibly authentic โ€“ with a cry in her voice as she sings about Christโ€™s crucifixion.

โ€œThey beat my Jesus

They beat him all night long

Until He saw every little bone

And when He took His very last breath,

He hung His Head and died for you and I.โ€

balancing a barbell on fingerThose are powerful, powerful lyrics.ย  The point is, a regular man, very much a human, wouldnโ€™t sacrifice his life for someone else, let alone everybody.ย  Winans highlights this selfless nature, supported by a spirited choir on the bridge/vamp section.ย  โ€œJesus went to Calvary / To save a wretch like you and me / Thatโ€™s love, thatโ€™s love.โ€ So true, so true! Perhaps the most inspiring part of this section, that precedes one final, loving chorus is when Vickie and choir assert, โ€œThatโ€™s not how the story ends / Three days later, He rose again / Thatโ€™s love, thatโ€™s love.โ€ Indeed, ๐ŸŽต โ€œOh What Loveโ€.
